Overview
Apex Industries is looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our Corporate Team, supporting Health & Safety across five different business groups in our manufacturing operations.
In this role, reporting to the HR Manager, you will play an important part in supporting and continuously improving our Health & Safety Management System across five manufacturing business groups. You will work closely with employees, supervisors, managers, and Joint Health & Safety Committees to promote a proactive safety culture, identify and reduce workplace risks, and support compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and company standards.
This is a hands-on role that combines safety program administration, compliance, training, incident investigation, risk management, employee engagement, and data analysis. You will also develop and monitor Health & Safety KPIs and provide reporting and insights to support leadership decision-making.
What You'll Do
Health & Safety Program & Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and monitor Health & Safety KPIs and scorecards across our business groups.
- Analyze leading and lagging safety indicators and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual Health & Safety reports for leadership.
- Support leaders in establishing safety objectives and measurable targets.
- Maintain the Health & Safety Manual, policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Monitor legislative changes and communicate requirements to management.
- Maintain required permits, certifications, records, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, and investigations and act as the primary contact during WorkSafeNB inspections.
- Ensure workplace safety and emergency equipment, including AEDs, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and spill kits, is inspected and maintained.
Incident Management
- Coordinate investigations of workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events.
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Track incident trends and prepare reports for management.
- Support workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Coordinate new employee safety orientations and onboarding.
- Schedule, track, and maintain records of mandatory safety training and certifications.
- Coordinate internal safety training, including forklift operator training and recertification.
- Develop and deliver toolbox talks, safety communications, and awareness campaigns.
- Maintain training matrices and safety records.
- Coordinate emergency response drills.
- Promote employee participation and ownership in Health & Safety initiatives.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in risk assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, and safety audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve workplace safety and operational practices.
- Support the development and achievement of annual Health & Safety objectives.
- Work with business leaders to implement corrective actions and safety best practices.
Employee & Committee Support
- Coordinate Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, including agendas, minutes, and action tracking.
- Serve as a resource to employees, supervisors, and managers on Health & Safety matters.
- Build positive working relationships and encourage safety ownership throughout the organization.
What We're Looking For
Education
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Human Resources, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
Experience & Knowledge
- 3–5 years of Health & Safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
- Working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Experience coordinating safety training programs and maintaining compliance records.
- Knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and corrective action processes.
- Experience supporting Joint Health & Safety Committees.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Health & Safety management systems.
- Experience working across multiple sites or departments is considered an asset.
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
- NCSO or NHSA certification is considered an asset.
What Will Make You Successful
We're looking for someone who:
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace Health & Safety.
- Can build trust and credibility with employees at all levels.
- Communicates safety expectations clearly and effectively.
- Is comfortable working with both frontline employees and leadership.
- Is organized and able to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
- Uses data and observations to identify trends and support decision-making.
- Takes initiative and follows through on commitments.
- Is proactive in identifying opportunities to improve safety performance and compliance.
- Can adapt to changing priorities and support different manufacturing operations with varying risks and processes.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on workplace safety and employee well-being while working closely with leaders and employees across multiple manufacturing operations.
If you are a hands-on Health & Safety professional who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, analyzing safety data, and helping create a stronger safety culture, we'd like to hear from you.
