Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Construction Health and Safety Representative to oversee and promote safety protocols across our construction sites. This vital role ensures compliance with safety regulations, minimizes risks, and fosters a culture of safety awareness among all team members. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of construction safety standards, excellent communication skills, and experience in managing safety programs within construction environments. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of workers while supporting the successful completion of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies tailored to construction sites.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Lead safety training sessions for new and existing staff, emphasizing best practices and hazard awareness.
  • Assist Foreman with pre-job planning, including but not limited to, job safety analyses, and pre-job hazard assessments. Creating/modifying JSA’s as required.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, or safety violations, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and workers to promote a culture of safety throughout all phases of construction.
  • Deliver on-site tool-box talks, and facilitate the training of personnel on Health and Safety subjects. Actively participating in discussions and providing guidance on safe work approaches
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain 3rd party contractor management platforms.
  • Complete submit and manage WSIB claims, injury documentation and employee modified work plans.
  • Stay current with evolving safety regulations and industry best practices to continuously improve safety procedures.
  • Maintain a system of incident investigations, using root cause analysis, documentation, and standardized Haller Mechanical processes.
  • Represent Haller Mechanical in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in construction or a related field, with a strong understanding of construction processes and site operations.
  • Minimum 5 years experience.
  • Certification in OSHA or equivalent safety training is preferred.
  • Post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with inquiries.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the applicable OHSA, including the construction Act and Regulations, as well as WSIB Legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey safety policies and foster teamwork.
  • Work in challenging conditions (outdoors 8+ hours per day) and deal constructively with conflict.
  • Ability to identify potential hazards quickly and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, prioritization, and multitasking skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced construction environments.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
