PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE
BLACK LAKE, SASK.

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR A PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE PART-TIME FOR BLACK LAKE, SASK. TWO (2) WEEKS IN – TWO (2) WEEKS OUT.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting to the Director of Primary Care Services and Black Lake Senior Health Nurse, the Public Health Nurse will be responsible for facilitating and augmenting the existing Community Health and Public Health Programs primarily in the community of Black Lake.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides health information, crisis intervention and referral through telephone and one-on-one contact, in clinic and community home visits.
  • Provides group educational programs related to program objectives in the prenatal, postnatal, immunization, communicable disease control and tuberculosis programming.
  • Interviews and examines clients for the presence of sexually transmitted infections, blood borne pathogens and pregnancy, carries out appropriate laboratory procedures and treats or refers clients based on findings.
  • Understands levels of prevention and how these are used in promotion, prevention and protection of health.
  • Carrying out comprehensive health program in the schools and community.
  • Providing direct care by assessing client health needs, planning care, implementing interventions & evaluating outcomes.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles & health promotion.
  • Evaluates the health of patients and creates treatment plans.
  • Participates in evaluation and documentation of patients and care.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of one year of experience in public health care services.
  • Experience in Northern Saskatchewan and First Nation locations considered an asset
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to the Dene culture and First Nations Communities
  • Satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerability Check
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
