Full job description

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their growing manufacturing organization. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle accounting, supporting financial reporting, managing payroll, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys balancing day-to-day accounting responsibilities with process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide financial insights to support operational decision-making.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and capital asset reporting.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Support inventory accounting, costing, and reconciliation of inventory transactions.
  • Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of manufacturing costs, inventory, and work-in-progress.
  • Process and review payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring compliance with all applicable payroll legislation.
  • Administer payroll deductions, benefits, remittances, year-end reporting (T4s), and Records of Employment (ROEs).
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and ensure timely payroll reporting.
  • Assist with GST/HST filings, government remittances, and other regulatory reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and responding to audit requests.
  • Review and improve accounting processes and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff as required.
  • Participate in ERP system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation completed or in progress is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
  • Hands-on payroll experience processing payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Strong understanding of inventory, costing, and manufacturing accounting principles.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Epicor, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and statutory remittances.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with standard costing and inventory valuation.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing environments.
  • Previous experience supporting audits and year-end financial reporting.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience.
