Ketek Group Inc:
From its 10 locations in Western and Northern Canada, Ketek is able to provide services and rental equipment to clients throughout the region’s oil and gas, mining, construction, and municipal sectors.

POSITION BACKGROUND:
The HSLP Advisor provides specialized advice and guidance to company employees at all levels, to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation. This position requires that the HSLP Advisor handles all day-to-day safety issues that arise in Ketek buildings, yards, and job sites.

CORE DUTIES:
Compliance
  • Record and investigate complaints, identified hazards, and specialized unplanned events
  • Conduct HSE audits, reviews, and risk assessments
  • Assist with weekly safety meetings for applicable company branch locations
  • Assist with the creation and updates of various company Formal Hazard Assessments
  • Conduct and document regular/quarterly facility/branch safety inspections
  • Audit client & contractor safety programs against applicable legislation
Program Facilitation
  • Monitor and evaluate occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations
  • Coordinate unplanned event investigations and ensure effective corrective actions are properly implemented
  • Enforce health & safety program elements and provide subject matter expertise
  • Support the emergency preparedness processes and assist with ERP training exercises
  • Manage client safety requests and requirements
  • Review & respond to hazard assessments, hazard IDs and other proactive reports
  • Mentor/educate company personnel regarding health & safety
Other Duties
  • Coordinate with HR, Training, and BT Leads regarding safety initiatives
  • Support, coach and mentor the Health & Safety Committee, where applicable
  • Promote a culture of safety excellence
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper PPE when applicable
  • Create & update company policies, procedures, standards and the safety manual
  • Be considerate of the needs of our community and the environment
  • Represent the Company in a manner that aligns with Management values, as well as the corporate vision and mission statements

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Required
  • National Health & Safety Administrator (NHSA) designation
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Health & Safety Advisor
  • Minimum 2 years oilfield and/or construction experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Fluent in the English language (reading, written & spoken)
  • Able to interact with clients and the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, changing schedules, and frequent demanding deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills

Preferred
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation
  • OH&S Certificate
  • Knowledgeable in Alberta and British Columbia OH&S Legislation
  • Experience creating and revising policies, procedures, standards, and forms
  • Experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone
  • High exposure to computer screens and office related ergonomic hazards
  • May be required to occasionally work around heavy-duty equipment
  • May occasionally be exposed to loud noise or hazardous materials/substances and must implement applicable control measures in order of hierarchy

Work Environment
  • Office environment (85%), shop/yard environment (10%) and field environment (5%)
  • May be occasionally required to work weekends and/or outside of regular office hours
  • Pre-Access drug and alcohol testing may be required for Client site visits
