Job Description

Established Mississauga Law Firm located near Square One, has an immediate opening for a Bookkeeper for an on-site position in their Accounting and Administration Department. Experience required.

Main Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Bookkeeper

  • Maintain and balance company accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks such as preparing invoices and bank deposits
  • Sort, process, and verify receipts
  • Complete daily transactions at banking institutions
  • Banking reconciliations (daily/monthly)
  • Trust/EFT processing
  • Payroll
  • Tax Filings
  • Compliance with Law Society of Ontario Requirements

Administration:

  • Sort and file documents according to established filing systems
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail and courier packages
  • Perform clerical duties including data/word processing, faxing and photocopying
  • Greet visitors coming into the office, direct them to appropriate contacts, provide general information in person and by phone
  • Operate a telephone system/switchboard to answer, screen and forward telephone calls and take messages

Required Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within a law firm or real estate practice
  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field of study
  • Proficiency with PC Law
  • Strong numerical skills and the knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a high pressure environment
  • The ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required for daily banking transactions

While not required, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Direct experience in real estate law accounting (eg. trust reconciliations, disbursements, statement of adjustments, teraview/land transfer tax payments) would be an asset
  • Experience in an administrative roll, particularly within an accounting department
  • Previous switchboard or front-desk experience
