POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Technical Services, the GIS Specialist will work closely with engineering, environmental, and project/operations management teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for GIS data management, mapping, and spatial analysis, as well as the implementation and maintenance of GIS tools required to support engineering, environmental management, and project teams during the planning, design, and construction of transmission line projects.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

GIS Data Management

  • Collect, organize, and maintain GIS data related to transmission lines, including land use, topography, environmental factors, and infrastructure.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility.

Mapping & Analysis

  • Create detailed maps and spatial analyses to support transmission line routing, design, planning, and construction.
  • Work closely with engineering and environment teams to integrate GIS data into design and construction processes.
  • Communicate findings and analyses through reports, presentations, and visualizations to stakeholders and project teams.

Project Support

  • Assist with development, implementation of GIS based project tracking, KPIs and project analytic tools including ArcGIS dashboards.
  • Configure maps and forms for Field Maps to facilitate and support field teams recording GIS data during site visits and inspections.
  • Assist in the preparation of permits, regulatory submissions, and environmental assessments.

Technology & Innovation:

  • Stay updated with the latest GIS technology and trends to continuously improve processes and tools.
  • Develop and maintain automation tools, including power automate, to streamline GIS related workflows and enhance data analysis capabilities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field or Successful completion of a diploma or degree in GIS/Geomatics from an institute of recognized standing and two years of related experience. A master’s degree is an asset
  • 3 years experience with geodatabase topologies and parcel fabrics along with Online Web-based products and FME
  • Proficiency in mapping and analytics software platforms, as well as geospatial data integration tools
  • Proficiency in using ESRI products including ArcGIS Online and Field Maps and related tools
  • Experience in GIS within the utility sector, specifically in transmission line design and planning would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Power Automate, Survey123, and Python coding would be considered an asset

  • Ability to work independently with little direction and with a sense of ownership and personal commitment to a Zero Injury/Occupational Illness culture
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Adaptable and effective in a fast-paced, change-oriented, and deliverable focused setting

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
  • Requires occasional travel to various project sites and office locations
