Boreal Horticultural Services is seeking applications for a Reclamation Silviculturist to independently manage full-lifecycle reforestation projects!

Boreal Horticultural Services is a well-established team that specializes in silvicultural reclamation projects for industrial disturbances across Western Canada, offering seed collection, stock production, seedling establishment, reclamation consultation, and site monitoring services. Their clients include prominent members of the environmental, oil and gas, and mining industries reclaiming disturbances of forest land.

Position Overview

The Reclamation Silviculturist is a key member of a small team who will independently manage full reforestation projects for our valued clients. This role requires the utilization of silvicultural and reforestation expertise, a leadership mindset with a deep understanding of legislation, and proven field experience.

This full-time position is created through company growth and will be based in Bonnyville, Alberta, operating out of the Bonnyville Forest Nursery office, with travel to remote client field sites throughout Western Canada during the active field season.

What We Offer

  • Salary: $80,000 - $100,000, based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Positive, collaborative, and close-knit team environment.
  • Meaningful, impactful work with a high degree of autonomy.

Responsibilities

Primary duties will vary by season and span the entire project lifecycle, including:

  • Prescription & Compliance: Reviewing site conditions and legislation to develop comprehensive, site-specific prescriptions to establish free-to-grow reclamation on reclaimed disturbances.
  • Operational Coordination: Overseeing and coordinating nursery stock production and schedules to ensure readiness aligns with field delivery timelines.
  • On-Site Fieldwork: Spending active time in the field to coordinate logistics, supervise subcontractors, and perform direct quality assurance monitoring.
  • Project Oversight: Managing end-to-end project timelines, resources, and technical oversight independently.
  • Client Communication & Reporting: Maintaining responsive, technical client communication and progress reporting through all stages of the project.
  • Post-Planting Assessment: Conducting field-based monitoring of reforestation stock on reclamation sites.
  • Administration: Project administration and other duties as assigned.

Competencies and Experience

  • Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Management discipline (must be registered or eligible for professional designation,).
  • Experience: 3–5 years of field-based experience in silviculture or forestry, with thorough knowledge of Western Canadian forestry regulations, legislation, and reclamation criteria.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a project from initial assessment through to field execution and final monitoring.
  • Strong self-reliance and leadership qualities, with the ability to supervise subcontractors and manage moving parts in the field.
  • Proven experience in seed/vegetative material collection, nursery stock production, and post-planting monitoring.

If you are a self-motivated leader passionate about reclamation, forestry, and overseeing projects from the ground up, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity!
