River Valley School is an independent school providing unparalleled education and character development for children aged 3 to grade 6. Our vision is to curate opportunities for learning and discovery that are as dynamic as the world around us. We are a growing school with approximately 315 students within Bowness, Calgary, Alberta.

RVS students experience opportunities for hands-on learning and connections with the real world. We focus on high student achievement, but also on supporting the individual and their overall well-being and development. We are not an exclusive, one-size-fits-all school. How we teach students is determined by who they are, how they learn, and what engages them.

River Valley School is currently seeking a dedicated and effective Elementary French Specialist for the coming school year.

Responsibilities:

Working under the direction and supervision of the Head of School and Academic Leadership Team, the Elementary French Specialist will:

  • Promote, achieve, and maintain a high standard of French instruction for students in grades PreJK-Grade 6.
  • Design and/or follow a complete teaching plan. Demonstrate a high degree of professional competence in planning, teaching, student assessment, and reporting while recognizing and providing for individual student needs.
  • Complete progress reports and parent progress meetings.
  • Develop and enhance positive interpersonal relationships with students, faculty and parents based upon a respect for the dignity of individuals.
  • Participate as an effective team member in the development and implementation of the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Be familiar with those sections of the School Act, the regulations of Alberta Education, and regulations of the Board that pertain to educator responsibilities.

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Fluent speaking French.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn the AIM French program.
  • Possess strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Bachelor of Education.
  • Alberta Interim or Permanent Teaching Certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience.
