Our kitchen works hand-in-hand with a wonderful group of dedicated community volunteers who serve meals in our dining room and bring warmth to our residents' day. We are searching for a leader who brings fresh creativity to the table, but who also deeply appreciates traditional recipes passed down through decades and values the community spirit that defines us.

  • Menu Development: Bring creativity to the kitchen by developing innovative meal features while honoring traditional favorites.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Provide support to the dedicated volunteers who serve in the dining room, ensuring they are supported, informed, and welcomed as part of the meal service team.
  • Financials & Inventory: Manage inventory, order supplies, and closely monitor food and labor cost percentages.
  • Team Leadership: Train, mentor, supervise, and schedule kitchen staff, fostering a positive, productive, and fun work environment.

Safety & Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with provincial food safety regulations and keep the kitchen clean and inspection-ready at all times.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside Management to implement efficiency improvements and ensure seamless service, hospitality, and resident satisfaction.
  • Community: Participate in community and charitable events integral to MSHN’s mission.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of kitchen experience (Required), with proven experience as a Kitchen Manager or in a similar leadership role.
  • People Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a diverse team of paid staff and interact warmly and respectfully with community volunteers.
  • Cultural Asset: Experience and knowledge in traditional Mennonite cooking is considered a strong asset.
  • Skills: Robust knowledge of kitchen operations, inventory management, and labor/food cost controls.
  • Certification: Valid Food Handler Certification (Required).
  • Language: Professional English proficiency (Required).
  • Mindset: A strong passion for hospitality, a commitment to exceptional dining, and a desire to innovate and have fun!
