We're looking for a hands-on financial professional who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and taking responsibility for their work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

About the Role

As Controller, you'll oversee the accounting and financial management of multiple companies within the CMB Group. Working closely with ownership, external accountants, financial institutions, and operational managers, you'll ensure our financial information is accurate, our obligations are met, and our businesses have the financial support they need to continue growing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger and financial records.
  • Prepare and file HST/GST returns and other government remittances.
  • Coordinate year-end reporting with external accountants.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with banks and commercial lenders.
  • Prepare financial information required for financing applications and lending requirements.
  • Monitor internal controls and identify opportunities to improve financial processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and applicable regulations.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to ownership.
  • Support business planning and other financial initiatives as required.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and progressive experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Previous experience as a Controller, Finance Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar senior accounting role.
  • Experience managing the financial operations of multiple companies is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, HST/GST compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience working with commercial lenders, financing arrangements, and cash flow management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Sage accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Takes responsibility and follows through.
  • Is highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Can manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Builds strong working relationships with ownership, financial institutions, and external advisors.
  • Enjoys improving systems and finding practical solutions.
  • Brings professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment to every aspect of their work.

Why Join CMB Group of Companies?
