Full job description

We are a growing private medical clinic located in Montreal committed to providing exceptional patient care in a professional and welcoming environment. We are looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on Accounting Controller to manage the clinic's day-to-day accounting operations and help support our continued growth.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the entire accounting function in a small to medium-sized organization.

Position Summary

The Accounting Controller is responsible for managing the full accounting cycle of the clinic, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and compliance with applicable accounting and tax requirements.

This is a hands-on role that includes bookkeeping, month-end close, financial reporting, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

Full Cycle Accounting

  • Manage the complete accounting cycle from transaction entry through financial statement preparation.
  • Record daily accounting transactions and maintain the general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Process supplier invoices and payments.
  • Issue invoices and monitor collections where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate customer and vendor records.
  • Resolve payment discrepancies.

Bookkeeping

  • Maintain accurate accounting records.
  • Record revenues, expenses, payroll entries, and accruals.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and organized.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.

Government Compliance

  • Assist with year-end tax working papers.
  • Coordinate with external accountants during year-end engagements.

Budgeting & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and variance analyses.
  • Assist management with budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
  • Monitor clinic financial performance.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.

Internal Controls

  • Maintain strong accounting controls and procedures.
  • Improve accounting processes and workflows.
  • Ensure confidentiality of financial and patient-related information.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience managing bookkeeping independently.
