About Y Media Group

Y Media Group is the largest Media house catering to the South Asian Community in Canada. We began in 2001 with radio ‘South Asian Pulse,’ and over the years diversified into multiple platforms, including Newspaper - Midweek, TV - Channel Y, and Website - southasiandaily.com.

Today, with a recognized presence across Television, Radio, Print, Internet, and Community events & shows, Y Media has a robust multimedia platform that allows the vast South Asian community in Canada to be expressive, communicative, and interactive.

We are looking for a highly skilled and versatile Video Editor and Live Broadcast Technician to join our team. This role is critical in maintaining the high production standards of our 24/7 multimedia operations.

Job description:

As a Video Editor and Live Broadcast Technician, you will be the technical backbone of our TV and digital broadcasts. You will handle the end-to-end process of capturing, editing, and broadcasting content for Channel Y and our digital platforms. This role requires a unique blend of creative editing flair and the technical discipline needed to manage live, high-pressure broadcast environments. You will ensure that our content is linguistically accurate and culturally resonant across our Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, and English-speaking audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Live Broadcast Operations: Set up and operate consoles to pick up feed sources for live TV and internet streaming; monitor broadcast quality, signal clarity, and sound/color levels in real-time.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Maintain and troubleshoot broadcast hardware and software; perform emergency repairs or program substitutions to prevent "dead air" during signal failures.
  • Video Post-Production: Edit raw footage for news, documentaries, and commercials using digital equipment; integrate music, dialogue, and sound effects to produce polished final products.
  • Graphic Generation: Create and operate equipment to generate program titles, credits, sub-titles, and graphic backgrounds in multiple languages.
  • Audio Mixing: Operate audio consoles and processing equipment to mix and synchronize sound for live events and recorded segments.
  • Asset Management: Prepare and operate recording and playback equipment to archive videos and live events for future use across Y Media platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in video editing and live broadcasting.
  • Language: Must be fully fluent in Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, and English (verbal and written) to manage multilingual content and subtitling.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in professional editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects) and broadcast streaming tools (e.g., vMix, OBS, or hardware switchers).
  • Portfolio: Must provide samples of past work (Demo Reel) showcasing both editing skills and live production experience.
  • Education: Completion of a college program in broadcast technology, audiovisual technology, or a related field is required.
  • Attributes: Ability to work under tight deadlines and stay calm during live technical challenges; strong attention to detail regarding cultural nuances in South Asian media.

Note: Only candidates providing samples of past work will be contacted for an interview.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person
