Full job description

General Worker (Meat Wrapper / Packer / Front-End)

Pay: From $20.00/hour (based on experience)

For over 50 years, Gunter Brothers Meat Co. has been a family-owned butcher shop rooted in the Comox Valley, proudly supporting farmers and ranchers across Vancouver Island.

We’re stepping into a new chapter—raising the standard of how we work, how we show up for each other, and the pride we take in every product leaving our shop.

Our company believes that great teams are built from all kinds of experiences, personalities, and perspectives. We're a workplace where everyone is treated with inclusivity and respect.

We’re looking for ambitious people who want to be part of that.

The Kind of Team We’re Building

We’re building a team of people who:

  • Take pride in even the smallest details of their work
  • Respect their teammates and contribute to a positive, supportive environment
  • Show up motivated, ready to work, and ready to contribute
  • Hold themselves to a high standard—and rise to meet ours
  • Know how to stay efficient while still enjoying the day

This role matters. You’re often the final set of eyes on a product before it leaves our shop—or the first impression a customer has of our business.

If that responsibility excites you, we would love to have you here!

What You’ll Do

  • Wrap, label, and package meat products with accuracy and care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and efficient workstations
  • Assist with basic processing tasks and daily production flow
  • Support front-end customer service when needed (greeting customers, answering questions, handling orders)
  • Ensure all products meet our quality standards before leaving the shop
  • Help with general shop duties (cleaning, organizing, restocking)
  • Work collaboratively with the team to keep operations running smoothly

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, refrigerated environment
  • Physically capable (heavy lifting, being on your feet for extended periods)
  • Reliable, punctual, and accountable
  • A team-first mindset with respect for others

Previous experience in food service, retail, agriculture, or production environments is an asset—but not required. We’re happy to train the right people

Assets (Required)

  • Basic English
  • Class 5 driver’s license

Assets (Nice to Have)

  • Food Safe certification
  • Customer service experience
  • WorkSafeBC training

We’d also love team members who are open to being featured on our social media (completely optional—but a great way to showcase the people behind the work).

What We Offer

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities
  • Monday–Friday schedule (8:00am–5:00pm)
  • Weekends & statutory holidays off
  • Overtime opportunities available
  • Extended health & dental benefits after 3 months
  • On-site parking
  • Flexible scheduling options

Most importantly:
A workplace where your effort matters, your team supports you, and the work you do is something you can be proud of.

A Few Things to Know

  • This is an in-person role at our Courtenay facility:

6200 Ledingham Rd, Courtenay, BC

  • Local applicants only (Comox Valley / Campbell River area)

We do not offer relocation support.

  • We are committed to a respectful and inclusive hiring process. If you require accommodations at any stage, please let us know.
