The Opportunity:

At Canadian Natural, we are proud to be a leader in Canada’s energy industry. Join us and help drive innovation and long-term value through integrity, teamwork, and a passion for doing things right.

Make your mark while you grow your career! As the Environmental Field Coordinator, you will steward environmental compliance through strategic project planning and execution; providing expertise in liability reduction, environmental and regulatory compliance and reactionary management of environmental issues and challenges that require immediate actions to control, mitigate and resolve at operational sites within Canadian Natural’s conventional operating areas. The position works closely with internal operational teams, regulators, and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate demonstrates strong knowledge of the oil and gas industry, environmental regulatory requirements, exceptional communication, coordination and follow‑up skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. The role requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and discretion when handling regulatory submissions and sensitive information, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Job location: St Albert or Slave Lake, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts (Monday – Friday)
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes
  • Application deadline: November 22, 2026

Key Accountabilities:

  • Plan, organize, and deliver environmental projects and programs efficiently, ensuring alignment with operational priorities while actively identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities
  • Accountable for managing environmental data, reporting and regulatory compliance obligations at sites with AER approvals and permits, including monthly and annual reporting, and coordination of soil and groundwater monitoring programs as required
  • Manage environmental risk assessment and remediation activities at operating sites to reduce interim environmental liabilities, including site prioritization, budget development, contractor oversight, and project management of onsite personnel
  • Support and implement Canadian Natural’s Environmental Management System (EMS) by developing and delivering communication, training, and guidance for field employees and contractors
  • Conduct routine field inspections to verify environmental compliance, identify gaps, and proactively recommend mitigation measures to prevent or reduce future environmental liabilities
  • Collaborate with Safety, Compliance, and Operations teams to investigate environmental issues, implement corrective actions, and manage regulatory and operational risks
  • Coordinate and manage initial spill response activities, providing oversight of spill response consultants and remediation contractors to ensure timely and compliant execution

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Typically, 5+ years of oil and gas–related industry experience, supported by a degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Strong project coordination and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with accuracy and attention to detail are a must
  • Field experience relating to the following will be considered an asset:
    • Environmental risk assessment, risk management and remediation as they pertain to liability management, regulatory compliance and spill response
    • A working knowledge of the provincial and federal environmental legislation
    • Experience with oil and gas facilities and processes (specific to Western Canadian oil and gas operations)
    • A working knowledge of siteview and familiarity with data management systems

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary, stock options, company matched stock savings plan, annual bonuses
  • May be eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Policy
  • 100% Employer paid extended Health, Dental and Vision Benefits
