Position Overview:
The Survey Manager at Van Bower Construction Services is a pivotal role that not only oversees survey operations but also significantly contributes to business development and client relations. This position demands a strategic approach to identifying and securing new projects, coupled with the responsibility of ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of all survey-related tasks. A performance bonus is offered based on the candidate’s ability to secure and successfully deliver work/projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Business Development and Client Relations:
- Actively seek out new business opportunities and projects by leveraging industry networks and relationships.
- Develop and present compelling proposals that highlight the company's survey capabilities and value propositions.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, acting as a primary contact for survey-related inquiries and services.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements that align with company goals and client needs, ensuring a steady pipeline of work.
- Monitor client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle, proactively addressing concerns to enhance client retention and referrals.
- Achieve performance targets related to business growth, with a focus on securing projects that align with Van Bower’s expertise and strategic direction.
Survey Coordination and Planning:
- Coordinate and manage survey crews, ensuring projects are staffed appropriately and resources are allocated efficiently.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of survey plans that company standards and project-specific requirements.
- Ensure survey teams are well-prepared, equipped, and briefed for the successful execution of their tasks.
Project Execution and Delivery:
- Oversee the execution of survey tasks, ensuring all work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of accuracy.
- Monitor project progress and performance, making adjustments as needed to ensure successful delivery.
- Provide leadership and direction to survey teams, ensuring adherence to project plans and schedules.
Data Management and Analysis:
- Ensure the accurate collection, processing, and integration of survey data into project deliverables.
- Utilize advanced software tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, and ArcGIS to manage and analyze survey data.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all survey data, ensuring it is accessible for reporting and future use.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce strict quality assurance protocols to ensure all survey work meets or exceeds standards.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of survey data to identify and rectify any issues.
- Ensure all survey activities are compliant with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop survey teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge.
- Evaluate team performance regularly, implementing strategies for improvement where necessary.
Technical Expertise and Innovation:
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in surveying technology and methodologies, including 3D laser scanning, aerial LiDAR, and UAS.
- Innovate and implement new technologies and methods to improve survey efficiency and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize disruptions to project timelines.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and review comprehensive survey reports, maps, and other deliverables for client approval and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, clear, and meets both internal and client standards.
- Maintain detailed records of all survey activities, ensuring they are available for future reference and audits.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure all survey operations are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Perform risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures to protect team members, clients, and the public.
- Promote a culture of safety within the survey team, ensuring all members are trained and compliant with safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in surveying, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Extensive experience with MMCD and MoTI standards and specifications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, and other industry-standard software.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage teams and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
- Professional designation (P.Eng., PMP, ASCT, or similar) is highly desirable.
- Experience in 3D scanning, UAV/drone surveys, and LiDAR is an asset.
