The Opportunity:
TERMINAL OPERATOR
REPORTING TO THE TERMINAL MANAGER

About the role:
Reporting to the Terminal Manager, the Terminal Operator will be responsible for all aspects of terminal operations while conducting themselves in a safe and effective manner and contributing to a safe working environment for Greenergy. You will support and liaise with other departments, including health and safety, construction, environmental, engineering, and maintenance to ensure that all activities and personnel follow Greenergy Standards, programs and applicable government regulations
Key Activities:
- Be a safety leader. Regularly document safety observations as a part of the daily routine. Enter all safety concerns into Airsweb promptly and follow through with the completion of each entry.
- Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the facilities, including audits, inspections and associated corrective actions.
- Assist drivers with loading trucks at loading racks
- Loads and unloads railroad tank cars, trucks and ships and barges as assigned; loosens or tighten bolts manually using large wrenches; crawls under tank cars, walks on docks, hooks up and releases hoses; positions mechanical load arm or connects product hoses; reviews and completes documentation; monitors gauges; adjusts flow rates.
- Work with third party contractors to offload ships and maintain communication via radio and/or phone
- Opens and closes valves by hand.
- Ensures correct tank line-up for various receipt and delivery operations; performs tank gauging and temperature verification; completes associated paperwork.
- Ascends and descends ladders and stairs to manually gauge tanks.
- Responds rapidly and appropriately to emergencies following safety guidelines and procedures; uses equipment, chemicals, and procedures appropriate to the terminal.
- Participates in and completes all assigned training programs.
- Trouble-shoots pumps, meters, heating systems, ensures optimal equipment performance, reports deficiencies to the terminal manager and maintenance team.
- Operates site equipment to enable efficient operations including load handling machinery, snow removal machinery, lawn care machinery, etc.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance in a safe and efficient manner.
- Complete repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment
- Monitor equipment and identify operational issues.
- Assess safety procedures/compliance, act accordingly, and assist with the implementation of current operating procedures.
- Offsite inspections transload locations
- Maintain housekeeping standards.
- Issue safe work permits and prepare equipment for maintenance in compliance with all Greenergy rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate daily equipment logs, records, production readings and all electronic reporting formats.
- Demonstrate and uphold all Greenergy rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures applicable to the operation of company assets.
- Have knowledge of how the terminal operates and understand the causes of breakdowns. Find ways to make improvements with keeping costs down. Know the contractors and have them readily available.
- Be proactive in developing, communicating, and executing initiatives to better the terminal and company. Volunteer to lead and participate in initiatives.
- Be available as required to provide exceptional response time to the team, and to stakeholders, in order to support the business and minimize terminal/site downtime.
- Execute work to effectively generate the best value for Greenergy.
- Identify, communicate, and execute operational efficiencies that will help to reduce time/cost.
- Ensure that all communicated budgets and schedules are met.
- Plan, manage, and execute all assigned tasks and projects on time and budget.

Skills/attributes required:
- Highschool diploma required. College diploma or technical trade preferred.
- Basic computer skills with ability to learn and adapt to Greenergy systems.
- Ability to work 8-12 shift rotations
- Experience in terminal operations preferred but not required.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Good communication skills. Ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions and directions.
- Ability to read, interpret and understand safety procedures.
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to work with fractions and perform various mathematical conversions commonly used in petrochemical industry.
- TSSA Petroleum Mechanic qualification preferred but not required
- Basic computer knowledge and user ability including database systems and other programs and applications used at location.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments.
- Understanding of general business concepts.
- Delivering a high standard of quality and service, which meets/exceeds our customer requirements.
- Ability to read strapping tables.
Skills/attributes desired:
- English/French bilingual preferred.
- Basic mechanical skills and ability.
- Heavy equipment operation and experience.
- Valid first aid training.
- Instrumentation and controls experience.
