Full job description

About Soneil:

Soneil Spark builds EV charging and mobile energy infrastructure, from residential and commercial chargers to mobile charging trailers and the software that runs them. Backed by more than 30 years of battery and charging expertise under the Soneil Group, we're building the next generation of energy products and moving fast to get them into the market. We're a startup, so no two months look the same. This is a role for someone who owns, executes, and delivers without needing to be managed. We're not looking for someone to fill a seat.

Role and Responsibilities:

As an Sr Embedded AI Software Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in developing software for innovative products that will drive the adoption of electric vehicles worldwide.

What You'll Own:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for EV charging and energy-management systems.
  • Develop and integrate firmware across embedded controllers, electrical monitoring devices, communication interfaces, and charging hardware.
  • Develop and integrate AI/ML-based forecasting and predictive-control capabilities for intelligent charging and energy management.
  • Troubleshoot embedded hardware/software, communication, and system-integration issues.
  • Participate in research, prototyping, laboratory and field testing, validation, and product deployment.
  • Evaluate new technologies and contribute to continuous improvement of embedded, EV charging, and intelligent energy-management solutions.
  • Take ownership of assigned development activities and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of embedded software development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Python.
  • Strong experience with Embedded Linux and RTOS-based systems.
  • Hands-on experience with ARM, STM32, NXP, ESP32, AVR, PIC, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi.
  • Strong knowledge of MODBUS, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, RS-485, TCP/IP, and UDP.
  • Experience with JTAG, GDB, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and serial protocol analyzers.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration, sensor interfacing, electrical meters, data acquisition, and real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience with AI/Machine Learning, time-series forecasting, and predictive modeling, preferably using real-world sensor or electrical-load data.
  • Hands-on experience with Python-based ML tools/libraries such as TensorFlow/Keras and scikit-learn.
  • Understanding of data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, validation, performance evaluation, and prediction-error analysis.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML predictions with embedded, IoT, or real-time control systems.
  • Familiarity with edge AI/ML deployment and model optimization is an asset.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with the complete product-development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through testing and implementation.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and adapt to changing technical requirements and priorities.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with EV charging systems, EVSE, energy management, electrical monitoring, or power electronics.
  • Knowledge of residential electrical-load monitoring and dynamic EV charging.
  • Experience with IoT/cloud-connected embedded products.
  • Mobile application development using Flutter or similar technologies for iOS and Android.
  • Experience with SQL databases such as MS SQL or MySQL.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript/Node.js, C#, HTML, CSS, or other full-stack technologies.
  • Experience taking products from prototype through field testing and commercialization.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
