Overview

T Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with experience in the mining or automation industry to join our talented team. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, reviewing, implementing, and troubleshooting electrical and control systems in mining operations.

This role focuses on the design, implementation, and optimization of electrical and automation engineering solutions, including automation systems, power distribution, and industrial control networks. You will work to enhance operational efficiency, ensure system reliability, and uphold the highest safety standards across mining operations (surface and/or underground), contributing directly to the success and sustainability of our projects.

It is a hybrid position based in Oakville, Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Design and review electrical systems for backfill plants or mining, including power distribution, motor control, and industrial automation
  • Prepare and review technical documentation (P&ID, SLD, load list, motor list, etc.), reports, and schematics in CAD software
  • Develop PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and SCADA systems for process automation and remote monitoring
  • Select and integrate sensors, instrumentation, and control systems for mining equipment and material handling systems
  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with mining safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement arc flash, grounding, and electrical hazard mitigation strategies
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, automation specialists, and mining operations teams to optimize electrical systems
  • Support capital projects related to new mining infrastructure, automation upgrades, and power system expansions
  • Provide feedback to managers and contribute to the business’ continuous improvement and growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering within the mining, automation, or other related industrial sectors.
  • Licensed and Registered Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng)
  • Proficiency in power distribution, switchgear, and electrical system design for mining environments
  • Knowledge of variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and low, medium, and high-voltage electrical systems
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, OPC UA, HART, etc).
  • Experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.), and SCADA/HMI systems is an asset.
  • Experience with sensors is an asset.
  • Familiarity with underground and open-pit mining, backfill electrical systems is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
