Substation High Voltage Electrical Engineer

Build What Powers Communities

At MCW, we don’t just design infrastructure, we help shape the systems that keep communities running. With a strong reputation in engineering, consulting, and energy systems, our team is driven by collaboration, technical excellence, and long-term client partnerships.

We’re currently looking for a Substation High Voltage Electrical Engineer to join our Winnipeg office and play a key role within our AGE Power team. This is an opportunity for a technically strong engineer who also enjoys engaging with people, someone who can contribute to design, support clients, and help guide the next generation of engineers.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll be involved in the full lifecycle of high-voltage substation projects, from concept through to delivery. Your work will include both technical design and collaborative coordination.

Key responsibilities include:

o Designing high-voltage electrical substations, including:

o Protection & control systems (schematics, wiring, panel layouts, cable schedules)

o Physical layouts of switchyard equipment, clearances, and connections

o Grounding studies and designs using CDEGS

o Performing arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using eTAP or EasyPower

o Supporting high-voltage systems for commercial and industrial facilities, including emergency power systems

o Collaborating closely with project managers and internal teams to deliver projects on time and on budget

o Engaging with clients and contractors to respond to technical inquiries and support project execution

o Contributing to cost estimates and technical documentation

o Helping maintain and grow strong client relationships through clear communication and professionalism

o Mentoring junior team members and contributing to a supportive team environment

What You Bring

You’re a well-rounded engineer who combines technical depth with strong interpersonal skills. You’re comfortable working independently but thrive in a team-oriented, client-facing environment.

Qualifications:

o Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (CEAB-accredited or equivalent)

o Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years as a P.Eng.

o Direct experience in substation design

o Eligible for (or holding) professional registration in Manitoba (EGM)

Technical strengths:

o Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, CDEGS, eTAP, or EasyPower

o Solid understanding of Canadian Electrical Code and applicable standards

o Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Professional skills:

o Clear and confident communicator, able to translate technical concepts for clients and stakeholders

o Comfortable working directly with clients and supporting project discussions

o Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities

o Collaborative mindset with a willingness to guide and support junior staff

o Detail-oriented, resourceful, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment

Ready to Apply?

If you’re looking for a role that combines hands-on engineering, client interaction, and mentorship, we’d like to hear from you. We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Extended health care
  • On-site parking
