POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Manager, the Cook will be required to ensure the restaurant operates efficiently and successfully. This role will provide coverage for the Manager position when required. Some duties will be supervision of staff, creating/maintaining scheduling, keeping track of restaurant inventory, ensuring the workplace is compliant with local safety standards and other duties as required. The Cook is vital to the operation of the restaurant as well as the customer experience to ensure repeat business.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under direction of the Manager, the Cook, plans, prepares and serves nutritionally balanced meals for the customers, promoting and reinforcing good nutritional habits; trying new foods, portion control and a balanced diet
- Ensure that food supplies are securely and properly stored
- Wear proper cooking attire (apron, hair net, gloves etc.)
- Using proper dishwashing methods
- Ensuring that the kitchen, cooking related areas and equipment are clean and in good working order at all times
- Order food and supplies as necessary
- Attend staff meetings
- Performs other related duties as assigned
STRATEGIC SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of general nutrition and large quantity food preparation
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to adapt to change (i.e., Food substitutions and number served)
- Ability to maintain all equipment used in cooking, food preparation, food storage and cleaning/sanitation in a safe and efficient manner
- Able to concentrate on multiple problems/tasks at once
- Must possess professional etiquette when attending to customers
- Strong verbal skills to communicate with staff and customers
- Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
- Demonstrate sound work ethics
- Be respectful, consistent, fair and flexible
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma required and minimum one year experience
- Food Handler’s and Food Safety Certificates
- First Aid Certificate
- Criminal Record Check and Intervention Record Check
