Full job description

WORLD-CLASS DESIGN. MODERN MANUFACTURING

CAD/CAM Engineering Technologist / Mechanical Draftsperson Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
$50,000 – $75,000/year (based on experience and credentials)

At RMD, our purpose is simple: Drive change to make the world better.

RMD is a Saskatchewan-owned, fully integrated engineering and manufacturing company serving industrial automation, advanced manufacturing, research, and resource development sectors. Our Saskatoon facility houses high-end CNC technology entering commercialization after years of R&D.

Where We’re Headed:

RMD is transitioning from a traditional job shop model to a more structured, production-focused manufacturing environment. That includes:

● Stronger process discipline and greater efficiency.

● Investment in advanced CNC equipment, industrial robotics, and emerging manufacturing technology.

● Implementation of the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to strengthen accountability, communication, and execution. This creates clear roles, expectations, and opportunities for growth as the company scales.

We are looking for an CAD/CAM Engineering Technologist / Mechanical Draftspersonwho is ready to dive in hands-on, master cutting-edge automation, and keep our modern production floor running at peak performance.

Who We Are:

RMD is a Saskatchewan-owned, fully integrated engineering and manufacturing company serving industrial automation, advanced manufacturing, research, and resource development sectors. Our Saskatoon facility houses high-end CNC technology and custom automated systems entering commercialization after years of R&D. We’re not just making parts, we’re scaling innovation.

Our values guide everything we do (RUTID):

Respect – We treat people right

Unity – We win as a team

Trust – We do what we say

Integrity – We do the right thing

Drive – We push forward

How This Role Starts:
You won't start at a desk. Your first weeks are on the floor, reporting to the President and Production Manager, leading the shop clean-up and transition: driving a proper 5S implementation and shop reorganization, getting your forklift ticket, working alongside every department lead (production, programming, electrical, cabinetry, welding/fitting), verifying processes are being followed, and designing jigs and fixtures along the way. This builds the shop knowledge and credibility you'll need before drafting for the floor and gives you real input into which disciplines and equipment become your focus. Drafting work picks up gradually as this phase winds down.

Where the Role Goes:

Once you’ve built a strong foundation on the floor, you will support our engineering and manufacturing teams by handling drafting, technical design updates, and shop-floor support—helping keep production moving efficiently and freeing up engineering capacity for complex projects.

Core Responsibilities:

Drafting & Documentation: Locate, organize, and update AutoCAD/Inventor drawings; support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
CAD/CAM Support: Create or modify mechanical models and assist with CAM programming.
Cross-Department Alignment: Work with production, cabinetry, electrical, and other departments to confirm designs fit correctly on the shop floor.
Project Support: Custom machine components and other equipment designs.
Equipment Support: Help maintain and improve the CNC and automation equipment you learned on the floor.

You won’t be expected to produce complete, independent designs right away; you’ll work alongside experienced team members, gain cross-department exposure, and have the opportunity to develop your technical skills over time.

Qualifications & Requirements:
● Education & Credentials: Hands-on training through a CAD/CAM, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or similar technical program required. A practical technologist is strongly preferred over a traditional mechanical engineer with primarily academic experience.
● Software: AutoCAD required. SolidWorks, CAM package, Inventor is an asset. ● Technical Asset: Welding and fitting experience beyond basic MIG is a strong asset. However, candidates with the right core technical background, mechanical aptitude, and drive to learn will be considered and trained.
● Technical Familiarity: Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot machinery independently. Willingness to learn robotics, CNC equipment, teach pendants, and G-code.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs; forklift operation (certification provided); extended standing/walking on the shop floor; overhead crane use; steel-toed footwear and PPE.

Safety Is Our #1 Priority:

You will receive proper training before undertaking any task, have access to required PPE, and always have the right to refuse unsafe work.

Join Us:

If you are a hands-on technologist or draftsperson looking for a long-term role growing alongside a company modernizing its equipment, processes, and management — we want to hear from you.

Apply today and help us build what isn't there.

Pay: $50,000.00-$75,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Dental care
  • Disability insurance
  • Employee assistance program
  • Extended health care
  • Life insurance
  • Vision care
