How Monuwehkahal Homes Makes a Difference

Monuwehkahal Homes (an Oromocto First Nation organization) operates homes for children, youth, and adults in need of alternative housing solutions. Our mission is to offer exceptional care rooted in dignity, compassion, and evidence-informed practices.

To make this possible, we seek team members who bring kindness, patience, compassion, professionalism, and proactive dedication to their work. In return, we offer comprehensive medical, dental, and pension benefits for full-time employees after they successfully complete their probation period.

Your Impact as an Infant Care Specialist

As an Infant Care Specialist, you will be part of a dedicated team caring for an infant in our care, with care provided around the clock across three daily shifts: 12AM–8AM, 8AM–4PM, and 4PM–12AM. Together with the infant's social worker, health care providers, and Monuwehkahal management, the team will develop the routines and protocols that shape the infant's day — feeding, sleep, health, and development — and carry them out consistently across every shift. You will also provide hands-on care during each of your shifts as a consistent adult at the centre of the infant's life.

This role requires substantial experience caring for infants, through early childhood education, nursing, childcare, or similar work, and the judgment to help create a structured, safe, and nurturing environment.

Your Responsibilities as an Infant Care Specialist

  • Provide responsive, nurturing care to an infant in our care that supports healthy attachment and development
  • Provide day-to-day infant care, including feeding, bottle preparation and sterilization, diapering, bathing, and soothing
  • Follow safe sleep practices at all times and maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment
  • Help develop and implement care routines and protocols in collaboration with the infant’s social worker, health care providers, and Monuwehkahal management, and follow them consistently across shifts
  • Track feeding, sleep, growth, health, and developmental milestones, and complete daily reporting for the infant’s social worker and Monuwehkahal management
  • Attend medical, public health, and developmental appointments, including immunizations
  • Recognize signs of illness or distress and respond appropriately, seeking medical attention when required
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information about the infant

What We’re Looking For (Preferred Qualifications)

  • A diploma or degree in early childhood education, nursing, or child and youth care
  • Experience in an infant room, neonatal or pediatric setting, or as a nanny or foster parent to infants
  • Experience caring for infants with medical or developmental needs
  • Experience developing care plans, routines, or protocols for infants or young children
  • An understanding of attachment and trauma-informed care in early childhood (preference may be given to candidates who have worked specifically with First Nation children or families)

What You Must Have (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated experience caring for infants under 12 months of age
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, including infant CPR
  • Working knowledge of safe sleep practices and safe infant feeding
  • Valid New Brunswick driver’s licence and the ability to correctly install and use an infant car seat
  • Patience, warmth, and the ability to stay calm and attentive through demanding days
  • The discretion to handle sensitive and confidential information about children and families
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background and vulnerable sector check
