Director of Human Resources & HSE
Weston Manufacturing Ltd. | Fort Macleod, Alberta
Salary: $110,000–$150,000 per year | Full-Time, Permanent | On-Site
Help Shape the Future of a Growing Company
At Weston Manufacturing, we are family owned and are building more than large-scale structural steel projects. We're building the people, systems, and leadership that will support our continued growth.
As a growing structural steel fabrication company, serving major commercial and industrial projects, we're looking for an experienced Director of Human Resources & HSE who can bring fresh ideas, strong leadership, and a strategic approach to how we manage our people and workplace safety.
This isn't a role focused solely on maintaining existing HR processes. We're looking for someone who can identify opportunities, challenge the status quo, develop their team, and help shape the direction of our business.
Working directly with ownership and our leadership team, you'll have the opportunity to influence company culture, workforce strategy, operational improvements, and long-term organizational success.
The Opportunity
As Director of HR & HSE, you'll lead our HR and safety team, providing strategic direction and oversight across both functions.
You'll work closely with department leaders to understand the business, anticipate workforce needs, strengthen employee engagement, and build systems that support our continued growth.
We're looking for someone who thinks strategically but isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. Someone who can develop a long-term plan, lead its execution, and step in when hands-on support is needed.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
- A seat at the leadership table. Work directly with ownership and senior leaders to help guide business decisions and organizational strategy.
- The opportunity to make an impact. Bring forward new ideas, improve processes, and implement meaningful changes across the organization.
- An established team to lead. Provide direction, mentorship, and accountability to our HR and HSE team.
- A growing company with long-term opportunity. Be part of a business delivering large-scale commercial and industrial projects with a strong pipeline of work.
- Real influence on company culture. Help strengthen employee engagement, retention, leadership development, and workplace safety.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development
- Develop and execute HR and HSE strategies aligned with company goals and operational priorities.
- Partner with ownership and department leaders on workforce planning, organizational development, and long-term business needs.
- Lead and develop the HR and HSE team, establishing priorities, accountability, and performance expectations.
- Use HR data and performance metrics to identify trends, measure results, and recommend and lead improvements.
Human Resources & Company Culture
- Provide leadership and oversight of recruitment, onboarding, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and performance management.
- Develop initiatives that strengthen company culture, employee engagement, retention, and leadership development.
- Guide managers through employee relations matters, workplace challenges, and organizational changes.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, policies, and operational efficiencies.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Oversee the company's HSE programs, regulatory compliance, COR certification, and safety audits.
- Provide strategic oversight of WCB claims, return-to-work programs, and injury prevention initiatives.
- Develop strategies to reduce workplace incidents, improve safety performance, and manage WCB-related costs.
- Champion a proactive safety culture that promotes accountability and continuous improvement.
The Leader We're Looking For
We're looking for a confident, approachable, and solutions-focused leader who understands that successful HR leadership requires both strategic thinking and practical involvement.
You should be just as comfortable collaborating with ownership on business strategy as you are walking through the shop, connecting with employees, and understanding the challenges faced by operational teams.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience in a senior HR/HSE leadership or management role.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta employment legislation, employee relations, and HR best practices.
- Experience overseeing health and safety programs, preferably in manufacturing, construction, transportation, or another industrial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop strategies, and implement organizational improvements.
- Strong communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- The ability to build trust and credibility with leadership, managers, and frontline employees.
- A proactive mindset, sound judgment, and a willingness to take ownership of results.
We're looking for someone who brings solutions forward, makes informed decisions, and genuinely enjoys developing people and helping a business grow.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary: $110,000–$150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
- A senior leadership role with direct involvement in company strategy.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on company culture, safety, and organizational growth.
- A collaborative, growth-focused working environment.
- Long-term opportunity with a well-established Southern Alberta company.
- Extended health, dental, and vision benefits
- Employee fuel discounts
- Monthly BBQs and annual team building events, like golf and other outings
- Recognition programs, including milestone rewards and birthday recognition
- Casual dress code and a relaxed work environment
- On site parking
Pay: $110,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
Benefits:
