Full job description

Are you an experienced engineer or engineering technologist who enjoys developing people as much as solving technical challenges?

Fleetway is seeking two supervisors to lead multidisciplinary groups of engineers and technologists supporting Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy and Halifax Class Design Agent programs.

In this role, you will combine technical leadership with people leadership. You will mentor and develop a high-performing team while contributing to complex marine engineering projects that directly support the operational readiness of the Royal Canadian Navy.

This is an opportunity to influence nationally significant defence programs, help shape the next generation of engineering talent, and build a rewarding leadership career within one of Canada's leading marine engineering organizations.

At Fleetway, you'll work alongside talented professionals solving complex engineering challenges while contributing to projects that have a direct impact on Canada's maritime defence capabilities.

If you're a collaborative leader who is passionate about developing people and contributing to complex engineering programs, we'd love to hear from you!

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Engineers and Engineering Technologists.
  • Foster employee growth through coaching, goal setting, performance discussions, and career development planning.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to ensure work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Collaborate with managers and program leaders to support resource planning and work assignments.
  • Monitor team workload, utilization, and skill development opportunities.
  • Support employee relations matters and provide day-to-day leadership to team members.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Perform administrative leadership responsibilities including timesheet approvals, leave approvals, and expense approvals.
  • Contribute directly to engineering project work as part of a working supervisor model.

Education

Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Systems, or a related technical discipline.

    Skills & Experience

    • 5+ years of experience in marine engineering, shipbuilding, defence, manufacturing, industrial operations, or similarly complex technical environments.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, or develop technical professionals.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
    • Passion for developing people and building high-performing teams.
    • Ability to balance technical priorities with people leadership responsibilities.
    • Experience leading engineers, technologists, or technical specialists considered an asset.
