Full job description

At Simplicity Air Ltd., we operate in a unique space: designing, manufacturing, installing, and servicing mobile heating, air conditioning, and idle reduction systems for heavy equipment, agriculture, specialty vehicles, work trucks, and off-road applications. We combine real-world field experience with practical engineering to create durable, serviceable, and innovative products for demanding industries. We have achieved recognition as a market leader, supplying simple solutions to complex vehicle environmental and climate challenges.

We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team and projects, improve processes, and help support the company’s continued growth. This is not a purely administrative role; we are looking for someone who can lead projects and employees, solve problems, work closely with production, and balance technical problem-solving with strong project execution and organizational leadership.

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the engineering department and projects, technical problem-solving, and engineering project execution. This role manages engineering employees, priorities, supports cross-functional collaboration, and ensures designs are practical, manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with company objectives. The ideal candidate has strong manufacturing and engineering experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accountability and momentum across projects. This position is part of the Management Team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the Engineering Department's overall vision, goals, and direction, while overseeing its daily operations and activities.

Goal Monitoring: Monitor departmental performance against set goals, taking corrective action as necessary to ensure progress.

Project Planning and Coordination: Lead engineering projects from concept through production and implementation. Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously. Develop and manage detailed plans for each approved project by defining goals, scope, priorities, objectives, timelines, risks, assumptions, staffing levels, roles and responsibilities, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables. Utilize appropriate software tools and project management methods.

Issue Resolution: Meet regularly with staff to facilitate the resolution of issues and problems.

Staffing: Ensure appropriate staffing levels meet departmental requirements, including recruitment, hiring, terminations, and performance management.

Morale and Ethics: Maintain high morale within the department by setting and demonstrating strong business ethics.

Project Management: Ensure projects and tasks remain on schedule and aligned with business objectives. Oversee project activities from inception to completion, ensuring adequate resource allocation, scheduling, documentation, milestone tracking, budget management, and other necessary factors for success.

Process Efficiency: Identify, develop, and implement process improvements and efficiencies, documentation practices, and proactively manage project scope, schedule, and cost changes. Improve product manufacturability and production efficiency.

Feasibility Analysis: Assist in conducting cost-benefit analyses, risk assessments, and ROI calculations to determine project feasibility.

Timeline Management: Maintain all project timelines, milestones, deliverables, and micro-deliverables using suitable software and tools.

Quality Assurance: Ensure that all projects and tasks adhere to the highest quality standards and meet the required specifications and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular project reviews and implement improvements as needed. Assist with troubleshooting technical and quality issues.

KPI Monitoring: Assist in establishing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to track project progress.

Team Engagement: Conduct meetings and forums to gather feedback, input, and expectations; incorporate these into project plans and report to senior executives. Coordinate activities across departments, including production, purchasing, service, and leadership. Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers regarding technical specifications and component selection.

Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, schedules, budgets, and reports. Prepare and present project reports to senior management and other stakeholders.

Budget Tracking: Track all project costs to ensure completion within budget.

Post-Project Evaluation: Conduct project post-mortems to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations based on findings.
