Vice President of Credit Services
Biggar & District Credit Union
Lead with Purpose. Grow with Community. Shape the Future of Rural Saskatchewan.
Biggar & District Credit Union is seeking a progressive and relationship-focused Vice President of Credit Services to join our Executive Leadership Team.
This is a unique opportunity for a strategic leader who is passionate about community impact, collaborative leadership, and helping people, businesses, and agricultural operations succeed. Whether you are an experienced credit union executive or a senior commercial and agricultural lender ready to take the next step into executive leadership, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP of Credit Services will play a key role in shaping the future of our organization through strategic decision-making, portfolio growth, team development, and sound risk management. The role is based in Biggar, Saskatchewan and serves members and communities throughout our rural market area.
Why Biggar & District Credit Union?
At Biggar & District Credit Union, we're more than a financial institution—we're a community partner. We take pride in serving rural Saskatchewan and small-town prairie communities where relationships matter, local decisions make a difference, and agriculture remains a vital driver of economic success.
When you join our leadership team, you'll find:
- An organization with deep community roots and a strong reputation
- The opportunity to make a visible impact on members, businesses, farms, and communities
- A collaborative and team-focused culture where people genuinely support one another
- A leadership team committed to growth, innovation, and member service excellence
- Flexibility balanced with meaningful in-person leadership and relationship building
- Professional growth opportunities and the ability to influence strategic direction
- The chance to help shape the future of a growing credit union
You'll also enjoy the quality of life that comes with living and working in rural Saskatchewan—short commutes, affordable living, strong community connections, and an opportunity to make a visible impact.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP of Credit Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for all lending and credit functions across the organization. This role plays a critical part in supporting the credit union's strategic priorities while ensuring a strong balance between growth, profitability, and risk management.
As a member of the executive leadership team, you will help guide the future direction of the organization while leading initiatives designed to:
- Support continued organizational growth
- Expand and strengthen our agricultural lending portfolio
- Enhance commercial lending relationships
- Maintain a high-quality loan portfolio
- Strengthen credit risk management practices
- Develop and mentor a high-performing lending team
- Deliver exceptional member experiences
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic thinking with community engagement and relationship building.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to the development and execution of the Credit Union's strategic plan
- Identify growth opportunities within consumer, commercial, and agricultural lending
- Collaborate with the executive team to advance organizational objectives
- Lead change initiatives that improve performance, efficiency, and member value
Credit Risk & Portfolio Management
- Provide oversight of credit adjudication standards and lending practices
- Ensure effective risk management and portfolio quality
- Monitor portfolio performance, delinquency trends, and loss mitigation activities
- Develop and enhance lending policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Provide lending analysis and recommendations to support organizational decision-making
Lending Leadership
- Support the continued growth of commercial and agricultural lending portfolios
- Participate in complex and significant lending decisions
- Identify opportunities to enhance products, services, and member solutions
- Ensure lending operations align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements
People Leadership
- Coach, mentor, and develop lending team members
- Foster a highly engaged, collaborative, and accountable culture
- Promote leadership development and succession planning
- Encourage innovation, continuous improvement, and service excellence
Who You Are
You are a relationship builder first and foremost. You understand that lending is about more than numbers—it's about helping people achieve their goals, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities within the communities you serve.
You are a strategic thinker, trusted advisor, and relationship builder who enjoys working closely with members, colleagues, and communities. You understand the unique opportunities and challenges associated with serving rural Saskatchewan and an agricultural-based economy
The ideal candidate is likely:
- An experienced lending manager seeking broader organizational influence
- A senior commercial or agricultural lender ready for their first executive leadership role
- An experienced credit union executive seeking a new challenge
- A strategic thinker with a strong background in lending who balances growth opportunities with sound credit judgment
- A collaborative leader who enjoys developing people and building strong teams
- Someone who understands and appreciates the unique needs of agricultural and rural markets
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
- Progressive experience in commercial and/or agricultural lending
- Leadership experience within a lending, credit, or financial services environment
- Strong knowledge of credit adjudication, portfolio management, and risk management practices
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with members, businesses, and community stakeholders
- The ability to contribute strategically as a member of an executive leadership team
- Credit union experience is considered an asset but is not required
Total Rewards
We believe in investing in our people and offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including:
- Competitive executive compensation
- Performance-based incentive opportunities
- Comprehensive health and dental benefits
- 8% matched pension program
- Generous vacation entitlement
- Professional development and ongoing learning support
- Flexible work arrangements based on business needs
- A supportive and collaborative workplace culture
