Full job description

Description:
We are seeking a 1st year Automotive Paint Apprentice to join our team at our Abbotsford location in BC. Craftsman Collision is the leading collision repair provider across Western Canada, with more than 45 locations throughout BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Automotive Refinishing Apprentice duties include:

Surface Preparation:

  • Sanding panels to remove old paint or surface imperfections.
  • Cleaning and masking vehicles to protect areas not being painted.
  • Applying primer and prepping panels for paint application.

Paint Mixing:

  • Assisting in mixing paint to match OEM color codes.
  • Using computerized mixing systems under supervision.

Spray Gun Operation (Under Supervision):

  • Learning proper techniques for spray gun handling.
  • Assisting with application of base coat, clear coat, and refinishing products.

Shop Maintenance:

  • Keeping paint booths clean and free of contaminants.
  • Cleaning tools and maintaining paint equipment.

Assisting Journeyperson Painters:

  • Helping set up jobs and completing tasks delegated by senior painters.
  • Observing and learning proper safety and refinishing techniques.

Adhering to Safety Protocols:

  • Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Following all hazardous material handling and disposal procedures.

Learning & Development:

  • Attending technical training sessions or classroom instruction (if part of a formal apprenticeship program).
  • Studying product data sheets and technical manuals for paint systems used in the shop.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a pre-apprentice training program in collision repair or experience working in a collision repair shop.
  • Comfortable working in a team oriented environment.
  • A strong work ethic, integrity and ambition to succeed.
  • Comfortable working one-on-one with a qualified red seal mentor.
  • Comfortable attending training and schooling required to progress your apprenticeship.
