Exciting Career Opportunity: Geology Technician (Geotech)

Join a dynamic team at Tanco, where geology meets innovation! We are looking for a passionate and skilled Geotech to contribute to our underground operations and exploration initiatives. If you love hands-on fieldwork, and ready to make a tangible impact, this is the role for you!

Job Summary:
As a Geotech, you will play a key role in supporting mining, exploration, and geological programs through the collection, preparation, and management of geological samples and drill core. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of geological data, ensuring samples are collected and processed accurately, and supporting operational decision-making through reliable geological information. The role works across underground mine areas and surface facilities, such as the Core/cut shack.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect face and muck samples in underground production and development areas to support grade control and geological interpretation.
  • Coordinate sampling activities with mine operations to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently without impacting production schedules.
  • Transport drill core from designated underground and surface locations to the Core Shack for processing and logging.
  • Prepare drill core for geological logging by aligning core, measuring recovery, marking meterage intervals, and identifying missing or disturbed core.
  • Maintain accurate labeling and tracking of core boxes to ensure long-term traceability and organization.
  • Cut drill core using diamond saw equipment and prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Operate sample preparation equipment, including jaw crushers and other related tools, while following safety and quality standards.
  • Tag, bag, and organize samples in accordance with established QA/QC procedures and sample preparation protocols.
  • Maintain organized core storage areas and support inventory management of geological materials and core boxes.
  • Review daily operational updates and geological priorities to support effective planning and execution of work activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, sample records, and inventory information to support geological and operational reporting.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company procedures and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma required.
  • Previous experience in geology, exploration, mining operations, sample preparation, or core handling is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License required.
  • Comfortable working in both underground and surface environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with operational and technical teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software applications.
  • Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.

SCHEDULE

This position operates on a 5-2 rotational shift pattern (5 days on, 2 days off, followed by 2 days on, 5 days off).

We understand that not everyone will meet every single qualification listed for this position, but don't let that hold you back from applying. We value practical experience, good judgment, and people who are willing to learn. If you are passionate about safety, enjoy hands-on work, are comfortable working in a mining environment, and believe you can make a positive contribution to our team, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for people with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a growth mindset who are ready to support the success of our mining and exploration programs. If this opportunity sounds like the right fit, please apply. We are excited to learn more about what you could bring to the role.
