Overview

Woolwich Community Services (WCS) https://www.woolwichcommunityservices.org/ is a nonprofit organization serving the communities of Woolwich and northern Wellesley Townships. With approximately 15 employees and an annual operating budget under $2 million, WCS delivers a wide range of social and community support programs. The WCS Board of Directors is seeking an experienced consultant to support the Board in strengthening governance practices, enhancing effectiveness, and ensuring it is well‑positioned to guide the organization’s strategic direction. This RFP invites qualified consultants to submit proposals to provide Board Development services.

Project Objectives

The Board of Directors is seeking support to assess current governance practices, clarify roles and responsibilities, strengthen Board structure and decision‑making, improve recruitment and onboarding, enhance Board–Executive Director communication, build capacity in strategic oversight and risk management, and develop a practical Board Development Plan.

Scope of Work

The consultant’s work may include facilitated workshops or training sessions; development of a Board Development Plan; recommendations on governance policies, recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation; coaching for Board leadership; and written summaries of findings and recommendations. WCS welcomes proposals that suggest additional or alternative approaches that support strong governance.

Deliverables

Expected deliverables include facilitation of Board development sessions, updated or recommended governance tools, a Board Development Plan with clear priorities, and a final report summarizing work completed and recommendations.

Timeline

Anticipated timeline: approximately 3–6 months, commencing Fall 2026

Budget

Consultants are asked to provide a detailed fee structure, estimated total project cost, optional/add‑on services with associated costs, and a proposed payment schedule.

Proposal Requirements

Proposals should include a cover letter; overview of the consultant or firm; relevant experience, particularly with nonprofit boards; proposed methodology and work plan; timeline; detailed budget; names and bios of key personnel; and two references from similar sized projects.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on experience in nonprofit governance, understanding of small‑organization board dynamics, quality of proposed approach, cost‑effectiveness, facilitation and communication skills, and references.

Submission Instructions

Submit proposals electronically in PDF format to: Jeremy Malloy, Board Chair, Woolwich Community Services at jeremy.malloy@gmail.com

Deadline: Aug. 14, 2026 (Late submissions may not be considered)
