HVC Brownfield Project – Logan Lake, BC
RKM Services Ltd.

RKM Services Ltd. is seeking a motivated Junior Project Manager / Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our project team supporting a major brownfield construction project at Highland Valley Copper near Logan Lake, British Columbia.

This is a site-based position suited to an early-career engineering professional who has a strong understanding of industrial construction, project controls, scheduling, quality documentation and project turnover requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with RKM’s project management, construction, quality and project controls teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager and site management team with the planning, coordination and execution of brownfield construction activities.
  • Support the development, maintenance and regular updating of project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Monitor project progress against schedule, identify potential delays and assist with developing recovery or mitigation plans.
  • Collect and validate field progress information from supervisors, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Assist with short-term look-ahead schedules, manpower planning and progress reporting.
  • Support project controls activities, including schedule tracking, productivity monitoring, forecasting and change management.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules and contract documents to understand project requirements.
  • Coordinate with field supervision, engineering, procurement, subcontractors and quality personnel.
  • Assist with the preparation, organization and completion of turnover packages.
  • Track inspection records, test reports, RFIs, NCRs, deficiencies, red-line drawings and other project documentation.
  • Review and understand QA/QC documents, including inspection and test plans, quality records, material documentation and turnover requirements.
  • Help ensure completed work is properly documented and meets contractual, engineering and quality requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes, action-item lists and progress updates.
  • Assist with quantity tracking, earned-value reporting and the verification of completed work.
  • Support project closeout, deficiency management and final turnover to the client.
  • Maintain effective communication with RKM personnel, the client, engineering representatives and subcontractors.
  • Perform other project coordination duties as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, structural or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • Previous experience in industrial construction, mining, heavy civil, mechanical construction or brownfield project execution is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project controls principles and construction scheduling.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Primavera P6 fluently to develop, update and analyze project schedules.
  • Understanding of QA/QC documentation and construction quality-management processes.
  • Experience assembling, reviewing or managing project turnover packages.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules and technical documents.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu and construction document-management systems is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an active construction environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project management, field supervision, tradespeople, subcontractors and client representatives.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working on active operating facilities or brownfield construction projects.
  • Exposure to mechanical, piping, structural steel or equipment-installation scopes.
  • Experience with progress measurement, schedule forecasting and delay analysis.
  • Familiarity with inspection and test plans, weld documentation, material traceability, deficiency tracking and turnover systems.
  • Previous experience on mining or large-scale industrial projects.

Work Conditions

  • Site-based position at Highland Valley Copper near Logan Lake, BC.
  • Work will be performed within an active industrial and mining environment.
  • The successful candidate must be able to comply with all site-access, fitness-for-duty and safety requirements.
  • The position may require extended hours during critical construction periods and scheduled shutdowns.
  • Work rotation, transportation arrangements and compensation will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
  • Work Schedule of 10 days on with 4 days off, LOA and Shift turn around mileage paid per pay period
