Position Summary

The Maintenance Associate ensures that e4c’s housing, offices, and community spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming. This role goes beyond basic repairs, requiring adaptability, patience, and respect for the diverse environments served. You will maintain, repair, and conduct safety inspections across apartments, shelters, group homes, and offices, ensuring that all properties are well-kept and free from physical risks, contributing directly to the comfort and dignity of residents, staff, and visitors.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday; 8:00AM – 4:30PM
  • Participation in a monthly on-call rotation is required, which may include weekend work and short-notice shifts based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs, including painting, drywall, flooring, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and minor renovations.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify safety, repair, and maintenance needs, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and fire codes.
  • Respond promptly to work orders and provide on-call support for after-hours emergencies as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Support preventative maintenance schedules, maintain accurate records, and keep inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with groundskeeping and seasonal maintenance, including snow removal and lawn care.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams for specialized repairs, projects, and facility improvements.
  • Advise supervisors on upcoming building and maintenance issues and assist with purchasing supplies within budgetary guidelines.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Certification

  • Completion of building operator certificate or equivalent
  • Completion of a relevant technical or trade certification is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and vehicle
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (min. $2 million liability), registration and 3-year drivers abstract.

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in general maintenance, building operations, or building repairs.
  • Experience working in inner-city environments and with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, addictions, or low income.
  • Working knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and general handyman skills (e.g., drywall, painting).
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and small equipment such as lawn mowers, snow blowers, and sweepers.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office) to effectively work with staff, tenants, and contractors.
