Full job description

Build a strong consulting team. Support great client work. Help shape what comes next.

We're looking for a Manager, Consulting Services to join our team in Calgary. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to continue building their HR expertise while gaining hands-on experience in consulting, client relationships, business operations, resource planning and practice management.

At Salopek, we work with organizations across Canada on everything from day-to-day HR challenges to investigations, compensation, recruitment, organizational development, payroll and strategic people initiatives.

You'll work closely with our Executive Partner, Consulting and alongside an experienced national network of HR Consultants. You'll have a versatile role with exposure to different organizations, industries and HR challenges while helping us continuously improve how we support our clients and Consulting Team.

What You'll Get to Do:

You'll play an important role in the day-to-day success of our Consulting Services practice, including:

  • Meet with prospective clients to understand their HR challenges and help determine the right approach.

  • Scope consulting engagements and help move opportunities from initial conversation to delivery.

  • Match client needs with the right Consultant based on expertise, capacity and fit.

  • Build relationships with our national Consulting Team and become a trusted day-to-day resource.

  • Support Consultant recruitment, onboarding, engagement and capacity planning.

  • Help coordinate quality assurance and recognize when senior or specialized expertise should be brought in.

  • Build relationships and referral networks within the HR and broader business community, helping strengthen Salopek's external presence and identify new opportunities.

  • Maintain your own portfolio of approximately 20 billable consulting hours per month, keeping you connected to hands-on HR work.

  • Contribute to networking, industry associations, thought leadership and other professional activities that support Salopek's reputation and growth.

  • Use technology, AI, ERP systems and new tools to help us continuously improve how we work.

Why Salopek?

For 20 years, Salopek has partnered with organizations across Canada to help them build stronger workplaces and people practices.

In 2026, Salopek was recognized as one of Canadian HR Reporter’s Leading HR Teams and Best HR Teams for Innovation, along with receiving Readers’ Choice Awards across six categories of HR excellence. These recognitions reflect both the strength of our team and the breadth of expertise we bring to our clients across Canada.

We're a small Head Office team supported by a national network of experienced HR Consultants, which means you'll have the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders, learn from specialists across different areas of HR and have a meaningful voice in how we continue to grow.

We believe great consulting isn't about making clients dependent on us. It's about sharing knowledge, building internal capability and helping clients become stronger over time. As a growing professional-services firm, we believe good ideasdon't need to travel through layers of bureaucracy. You'll have the opportunity to contribute, learn and see the impact of your work.

Why This Role Is Different?

If your HR career has primarily been within one organization, consulting offers the opportunity to broaden your experience across different leaders, industries and workplace challenges. You’ll learn from experienced HR Consultants while building your own client relationships. You’ll also gain exposure to the business of consulting, including how opportunities become clients, work is scoped and priced, expertise is matched to projects, and a professional services firm operates.

As Salopek grows, there is real opportunity to grow with us. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about HR, eager to build their expertise, curious about the business of consulting, and ready to take on more over time.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You...

  • Bring 5+ years progressive HR experience with broad generalist knowledge.

  • Use critical thinking to solve problems.

  • Are comfortable speaking with leaders and quickly understanding what they need.

  • Love building relationships and connecting people.

  • Can balance multiple priorities without losing sight of the details.

  • Are interested in the business side of HR, not only HR delivery.

  • Are comfortable with technology and interested in how AI and digital tools can make work better.

  • A CPHR designation is preferred. Candidates who are Associate Members actively working toward completing their designation within one year will also be considered. Consulting/client-facing experience is important, and investigation experience or training is an asset.

Total Rewards:

We want our team to have the flexibility, tools and support to do great work while continuing to grow professionally. Our total rewards package includes:

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications

  • Employer RSP matching

  • Group health benefits

  • 3 weeks of paid vacation

  • 5 paid personal days

  • 6 paid sick days

  • Additional paid time off over the holiday season

  • Flexible, primarily remote work environment, with in-person collaboration as needed and monthly team meetings in Calgary

  • Annual home office allowance to support the supplies and tools you need to work effectively from home

  • Individual professional development budget to support your continued learning and career development

  • Regular team events and social activities throughout the year, giving our remote team opportunities to connect in person
