We have also been designated as a "Top Insurance Workplace" by Insurance Business Canada.
At Surex, our mission is to protect Canadians. Our humble roots began in small town Alberta, and we have grown to offer insurance in nine provinces and all territories. More than one million Canadians choose to shop, compare and purchase insurance on our site every year.
Most importantly, Surex is a people-first company. We strive to craft the best experience for our employees by creating an inclusive, collaborative, challenging, and remote first-environment where insurance professionals can learn and solve problems on a daily basis.
Summary
As a Content Specialist, you will be responsible for producing written work that elevates Surex’s editorial voice and helps define it as a leader in Canada’s insurance market. Reporting directly to the Director of Content and AI Search, while working closely with our Digital Content Editor, your primary goal is to write and edit compelling, informative and easy-to-understand insurance content. You will craft in-depth, consumer-friendly educational guides, produce persuasive copy for core product pages, and implement on-page SEO strategies to ensure our brokerage ranks highly on search engines.
Responsibilities & Duties
-
Produce Original Editorial Content: Research, write, and edit high-quality, original articles and resources that demystify insurance, establishing our brand as an authoritative and trustworthy voice in the industry.
-
Develop Product Page Copy: Create and optimize clear, persuasive copy for insurance product pages, helping users easily compare coverages and take the next step in their purchasing journey.
-
Execute SEO Strategies: Incorporate on-page SEO best practices and execute keyword strategies to rank on the first page of Google, without compromising the natural, informative flow of the copy.
-
Maintain Editorial Quality: Edit and proofread copy to ensure flawless spelling, grammar, tone, and formatting, ensuring all content remains fully compliant with relevant regulatory guidelines.
-
Collaborate with Brokerage Experts: Consult with internal brokers, underwriters, and product specialists to translate technical policy details and complex industry regulations into accessible content.
-
Optimize Existing Content: Continuously analyze traffic and ranking performance to refresh and improve older content assets, ensuring they remain relevant and competitive in search engines.
-
Help manage the Content Calendar: Plan, organize, and schedule content publication with our editor schedules to ensure a steady stream of original work reaches our target audience.
Qualifications & Skills
-
Experience: 1-3 years of professional writing and editing experience, ideally in-house for an insurance brokerage, carrier, or FinTech/InsurTech platform.
-
Industry Knowledge: Understanding of personal and/or commercial insurance policies, coverage terminology, and the state or national regulatory environment.
-
Understanding of SEO: Previous experience writing search-optimized content that ranks on Google.
-
Editorial & Copyediting: Exceptional writing and copyediting skills with a strict commitment to editorial independence, original viewpoints, and human-written content.
-
Audience Focus: Ability to connect with everyday consumers, translating intimidating financial and legal jargon into reassuring and engaging language.
-
CMS Savvy: Experience working within Content Management Systems (such as Drupal, WordPress or HubSpot) and editing tools.
-
Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
