Position Summary

We are seeking an Instructional Designer to be responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating engaging, learner-centered micro credentials for skilled trades across a variety of delivery formats, including online, blended and in person training. The successful candidate will work closely with instructors, subject matter experts (SMEs), and industry partners to ensure that instructional content is research informed, competency based, and innovative, reflects current industry practices, and best practices in adult learning principles and universal design.

This is a unique opportunity to shape accessible, skills-first education that supports both individuals and the province’s economic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop workforce aligned instructional materials, including course outlines, multimedia content, assessments, and learning materials.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and industry to transform content into engaging, pedagogically sound learning experiences.
  • Ensure alignment with institutional goals and learning outcomes.
  • Develop materials for a variety of modalities including online, blended, synchronous, and in-person.
  • Utilize learning management systems (i.e Brightspace,) to build and organize courses.
  • Conduct usability testing and incorporate feedback from students, instructors, and other stakeholders. Support faculty and trainers with onboarding to newly developed curriculum and instructional tools.
  • Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in instructional design and digital learning.
  • Contribute to an agile, collaborative project team environment.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Qualifications
  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in instructional design or curriculum development, preferably in an adult education or training setting.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and e-learning development tools
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and integrating principles of equity, inclusion, and accessibility into course design.
  • Experience with Web Design, Layout and Organization would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft 365 (Office, Teams, SharePoint) and Learning Management Systems.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in a post-secondary or workforce training environment.
  • Familiarity with micro-credential development and competency-based education.
  • Graphic design or media production skills.
  • Knowledge of skilled trades and construction industries and apprenticeship system.
