JOB TITLE: Manager of Communications and Team Services 

REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing and Associate General Manager  

POSITION TYPE: Full-time

COMPENSATION: $50,000 to $60,000 annually, plus benefits

The Kitchener Rangers are a community‑owned, professionally run Ontario Hockey League franchise recognized for their strong organizational culture, elite player development, and exceptional fan experience. Overview:

The Team Services Coordinator provides administrative and logistical support to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the hockey club. This role coordinates team travel, including accommodations, meals, logistics, and player services while serving as a key liaison between players, coaches, staff, billets, and external partners. They help create a positive and organized environment that allows players and hockey operations staff to focus on performance and development.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Communications
  • Overall responsibility for communications and media relations strategies for the organization.
  • Draft and distribute organizational news releases including but not limited to player commitments, roster transactions, staffing updates, and other official club related announcements.
  • Primary communications and media relations contact, facilitating television, radio, newspaper and other media requests.
  • Oversee NHL Scouts & Media Room presentation and provided meals.
  • Administer & organize mass email database.
  • Facilitate game day media notes packets for media & NHL scouts and maintain all-time records for history.
  • Serve as a liaison between hockey and business operations.
  • Work with Community Relations on coordinating player appearances.
  • Primary contact for media broadcast partners, including streaming, television and radio.
  • Manage media accreditation and contact list and oversee press box and media seating.
  • Work with management to prepare statements or responses regarding organizational matters where required.
  • Coordinate press conferences as required.
  • Serve as the team’s primary communications contact with the Ontario Hockey League.
  • Research, write and publish editorial content based on current or historical events related to the team.
  • Manage online roster and leaguestat information.
  • Team Services 
  • Once schedule is released, book hotels, make bus arrangements with the Rangers designated provider and research and schedule meals based on the requirements provided by hockey operations management.
  • Create itineraries for road trips based on the schedule and the requirements of hockey operations.
  • Assist in the creation of a yearly travel budget and be responsible for managing that budget for road trips. This includes oversight of payment and reconciliation with the finance department within 2-3 days.
  • Accountable for passports for road trips that include border crossings.
  • Manage player ticket list for home and away games.
  • Join monthly hockey operations meetings and prepare a monthly calendar ahead of each month in the hockey season to clearly outline the activities and requirements of each month. Support with creating calendars for in-town prospects playing Junior B.
  • Manage team & billet communications via email or WhatsApp.
  • Manage team meals for home games and other events as required.
  • Assist with managing logistics for Development Camp and Training Camp, including transportation, meals, accommodations and expense tracking.
  • Support the creation and execution of player seminars, modules, player/family travel, and summaries of player and billet reimbursement

Education & Experience: 

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Recreation Management, Event Management or Communications.
  • Experience in sports and entertainment, or specifically hockey within the OHL or CHL, is an asset.   

Job Specific Skills & Competencies: 

  • Must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be well-organized and demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to build and foster strong working relationships. 
  • Required to be professional and discreet in dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Relentless worker who possesses a team-first, positive attitude. 
  • Managerial, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, strategic planning and time management skills are critical. 
  • Successful candidate will possess high proficiency with the Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Other Considerations: 

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed based around the Rangers game and event schedule.  
  • The candidate will be required to work on-site at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium and travel with the team on road trips and must have access to transportation to the facility. 
  • The successful applicant must present a satisfactory police check record.

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
