The CCS is committed to improving the experience of those touched by cancer by helping them live more fully. The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life brings together communities that share the goal of creating a world where no Canadian has to fear cancer. The Relay is an opportunity to pay tribute to those who live or have lived with cancer.
- You understand that in any festive event, like Relay for Life, the entertainment has to be up to the task.
- You have a strong network in your community and are comfortable asking individuals and groups to participate in the Relay experience by hosting or proposing interesting activities.
- You are able to develop a program and communicate parameters, keeping everyone focused on their task while creating a respectful teamwork climate.
- You are aware that cancer can change everything, and that by mobilizing the community to support those affected by the disease, we are helping to prove that life is bigger than cancer.
- You're ready to give your all to make the Relay experience a positive and meaningful one for everyone you come into contact with.
Our organization will provide you with training, support and online resources to help you manage this component.
You'll also benefit from the support of the Event Experience, Coordinator and the Relay Logistics, Director, a fellow volunteer, who will oversee all aspects of event set-up.
You'll be part of the wider Relay community, and through your activities with CCS staff and other volunteers, you'll have the opportunity to gain knowledge and play a mentoring role.
- This is an important leadership role that should require an ongoing level of commitment, including regular monthly meetings with the entire committee.
- In between committee meetings, you will contact professionals to provide entertainment for the event, and arrange for a Master of Ceremonies.

- Your time commitment will gradually increase as the date of the event approaches, as you ensure that the event is safe and fun. On the day of the Relay, your leadership will be paramount so that at the end everyone feels a sense of accomplishment, with the conviction that their actions have created something greater than cancer.
