Job overview:

Work can include inventory management, freight coordination, equipment tracking, yard maintenance, camp mobilization support, fleet coordination, shipping and receiving, purchasing assistance, and preparing supplies for field crews and remote camps.

The Yard Manager & Field Expeditor is responsible for managing day-to-day yard operations, inventory organization, equipment readiness, and yard maintenance. The role also supports the Logistics Manager with freight coordination, mobilizations, field resupplies, and operational logistics for active projects. The position requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing operational requirements.

Requirements:

Physical Requirements

Employees are expected to have the physical strength and stamina required to perform their duties. This role may require:

  • Lifting and carrying equipment, freight, and supplies weighing up to 100lbs
  • Repetitive bending, lifting, twisting, climbing, and equipment loading
  • Working outdoors for extended periods in adverse weather conditions
  • Operating equipment and vehicles for prolonged periods
  • Loading and unloading freight, trailers, and equipment safely and efficiently

General Requirements

  • A clean drivers abstract with no restrictions
  • 1 year of heavy-duty truck and trailer operation in a backroad environment
  • Proficiency with Skid Steer, or willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with team members
  • Ability to perform well in the framework of tight timelines
  • Familiarity with a basic industrial workplace environment; ie: power tools, small machinery, safe-work procedures, etc.

Responsibilities:

Operation:

  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe yard, warehouse, storage containers, fuel areas, and equipment laydown areas
  • Organizing and tracking tools, consumables, camp supplies, geophysical equipment, sampling supplies, safety gear, drill parts, and mechanical inventory
  • Preparing freight, supplies, equipment, and consumables for field mobilizations and camp resupplies
  • Assisting the Logistics Manager with shipping and receiving of freight, cargo, parts, equipment, and supplies through trucking companies, air carriers, and freight services.
  • Driving vehicles with trailers or boats carrying gear, fuel, or resupply items on mobilization days, demobilization days, or resupply operations
  • Tracking incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure materials arrive at projects on schedule
  • Working with the Logistics Manager and field supervisors to support mobilization schedules, freight tracking, and operational logistics
  • Assisting with camp setup and teardown during mobilization and demobilization periods
  • Coordinating equipment servicing, repairs, preventative maintenance, tire changes, and inspections
  • Maintaining accurate inventory and asset tracking records
  • Ensuring purchase receipts, packing slips, freight documentation, and operational expenses are properly tracked and promptly submitted to the accounting department.
  • Conducting regular inspections of company vehicles, trailers, generators, pumps, tools, and field equipment
  • Helping the shop mechanic in the yard when necessary
  • Tagging out defective or damaged equipment and arranging repairs or replacements on time to prevent operational delays or safety incidents
  • Assisting with purchasing and sourcing operational supplies, tools, equipment, and consumables as directed
  • Ensuring fuel, oils, batteries, hazardous materials, and compressed gases are stored safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Supporting field crews with operational logistics and responding to urgent supply or equipment requests when required
  • Leading by example by adhering to all safety procedures and maintaining a professional work environment

Yard:

  • Maintaining an organized inventory system so equipment and supplies are easily accessible and operationally ready.
  • Ensuring all company equipment is cleaned, serviced, charged, stocked, and prepared before deployment
  • Monitoring consumable inventory levels and notifying management of shortages before supplies become critical
  • Maintaining yard security and ensuring equipment sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed
  • Assisting with seasonal yard setup, winterization, and shutdown procedures
  • Performing general yard upkeep including snow removal, garbage disposal, equipment organization, and facility maintenance
  • Ensuring all work areas remain free from unnecessary hazards and clutter
  • Maintaining charging stations for batteries, tech, etc

Field Expediting:

  • Coordinating outbound freight and field shipments
  • Preparing shipping manifests, packing lists, and freight documentation
  • Tracking freight deliveries and resolving shipping issues or delays
  • Communicating with field crews about incoming shipments and logistics updates
  • Organizing camp resupply loads and mobilization equipment packages
  • Ensuring freight is packaged, labeled, and secured appropriately for the transportation method
  • Preparing and coordinating shipment of geological samples, hazardous materials, fuels, and operational freight in accordance with applicable transportation and safety requirements

Safety:

  • Ensuring open communication with supervisors and management regarding operational or safety concerns
  • Reporting all hazards, near misses, close calls, incidents, injuries, and non-conformances encountered during work activities.
  • Participating in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency response planning activities
  • Wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties
  • Ensuring forklifts, trailers, fuel systems, lifting equipment, and other operational tools are used safely and maintained properly
  • Maintaining spill kits, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, and emergency response equipment in operational condition
  • Following safe lifting, rigging, and load securement at all times

Skills & Assets:

  • Welding experience
  • Heavy Duty Machinery experience (esp. loader and excavator)
  • Skid Steer Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Knowledge of the mineral exploration and mining sector, specifically of the Dawson District

Upkeep of Certifications and Qualifications:

  • Responsible for maintaining a valid driver’s license
  • Standard First Aid Level C
  • Maintain a high degree of organizational ability and operational awareness to support multiple simultaneous projects

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 49.0 per week
