Full job description

Inhabit Education is an Inuit-owned educational company that produces materials for students and teachers in Nunavut. We primarily publish in Inuktitut and English, as well as in French and Inuinnaqtun. Our mandate is to create educational materials that are culturally appropriate and grounded in pedagogical research and experience. The ideal candidate is located in Iqaluit or Toronto, with the ability to travel occasionally if needed.

We are seeking a Staff Writer and Editor to join our team! The successful candidate is required to be in the office Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, this position will take on the following duties:

  • Writing, revising, and editing books and support documents according to levelling guidelines and plain-language principles.
  • Copy editing and proofreading a wide variety of resources for children and adults, including picture books, graphic novels, middle-grade and young-adult novels, textbooks, teaching guides, grant proposals, catalogues and other marketing material, course manuals, training presentations, and scripts for film and television.
  • Completing some administrative duties as required.

Required skills and experience:

  • At least two years of experience working in an editorial and writing role, ideally in a publishing environment.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Interest in social justice and equity.
  • Experience working with Indigenous, Northern, and/or marginalized communities is an asset.
  • Completion of a publishing certificate program is an asset.
