Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer for Victim Services of Brant and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction and operational management of the organization.

Guided by the organizations’ vision that all people have the right to feel safe and secure, and its mission to provide confidential, individualized support to anyone affected by crime, tragic circumstance, or disaster, the Executive Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed services while maintaining financial sustainability, organizational excellence, and strong community partnerships.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for implementing Board policies, achieving strategic priorities, ensuring accountability to funders, and fostering an organizational culture grounded in equity, diversity, inclusion, collaboration and compassion.

This is a full-time permanent position (40 hours per week). Evening and weekend work is occasionally required and is compensated through lieu time.

Strategic Priorities

The Executive Director is responsible for advancing the goals identified in VSB’s Strategic Plan including:

Sustainable Funding

· Increase stable provincial funding to support current and expanded programming.

· Diversify local funding through municipal, foundation, corporate and community partnerships.

Human Resource Strategy

· Recruit and retain diverse, skilled staff and Board Members.

· Develop and implement a succession plan for staff and Board positions.

· Strengthen volunteer recruitment, retention and role clarity.

Collaboration

· Expand partnerships and collaborative initiatives with police, justice partners, healthcare organizations, social services agencies, Indigenous Organizations, and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

· Provide visionary leadership aligned with Board-approved Strategic Plan

· Develop annual operational plans, measurable objectives and organizational performance indicators.

· Support effective governance by working closely with the Board of Directors.

· Prepare reports and recommendations for Board Meetings and the Annual General Meeting.

· Foster a collaborative, inclusive and trauma-informed workplace culture.

Financial Leadership

· Ensure the financial sustainability of the organization.

· Prepare and monitor annual operating budgets.

· Oversee financial reporting, cash flow, purchasing, accounts payable and receivable.

· Develop grant applications and funding proposals.

· Maintain accountability to all funders, including the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

· Work collaboratively with the bookkeeper and external auditors to prepare annual audited financial statements.

Organization Operations

· Oversee daily organization operations.

· Ensure compliance with legislation, Ministry standards, policies, policies and contractual obligations.

· Maintain organizational records, statistics and confidential client information.

· Monitor organizational risk, insurance, contracts and facility requirements.

· Ensure safe, effective and efficient service delivery.

Human Resource & Volunteer Leadership

· Recruit, supervise mentor and evaluate staff.

· Foster professional development and succession planning.

· Maintain current job descriptions and organizational policies.

· Address employee relations matters and performance management.

· Lead the organization’s volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, training scheduling, recognition and retention.

· Ensure 24/7 staff and volunteer support and supervision for crisis response.

Community Partnerships & Advocacy

· Build and maintain collaborative relationships with police services, emergency responders, justice partners, healthcare providers, Indigenous organizations, municipalities and community agencies.

· Represent VSB on committees, working groups and professional associations.

· Advocate for victims and promote improvements within the justice and social service systems.

· Attend conferences and professional development opportunities to strengthen organizational practice.

Communications & Public Engagement

· Ensure high-quality, trauma-informed and client-centred services.

· Oversee program planning, implementation and crisis intervention.

· Participate directly in crisis response when operationally required.

· Provide leadership during major community emergencies and critical incidents.

· Ensure appropriate follow-up, service coordination and quality assurance.

Working Conditions

The position is primarily office-based with frequent travel throughout the community and occasional travel across Ontario.

The Executive Director must be available to respond to critical incidents and major community emergencies outside regular business hours when required. The role involves exposure to traumatic situations and requires the ability to maintain professionalism, sound judgement and resilience in high-pressure environments.
