Company

Everest Signs, established in 1986, is a CSA-certified, full-service signage company operating from a 20,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Toronto (GTA East). We specialize in the in-house design, fabrication and installation of illuminated and non-illuminated signage for municipalities, schools, hospitals, commercial developments, churches, retail centres and corporate clients throughout Ontario.

Unlike production manufacturing, every project we fabricate is custom. Every sign is different in size, design and construction, providing a challenging and rewarding work environment for skilled fabricators who take pride in quality craftsmanship.

Position

Lead Sign Fabricator – Custom Metal Fabrication

Job Description

Everest Signs is seeking an experienced, hands-on Lead Sign Fabricator to lead our custom metal fabrication department. We're looking for a skilled fabricator who can build exceptional custom signs—not just weld them.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager and Operations Manager, this position is responsible for fabricating a wide variety of custom signs and sign structures while supervising and coordinating the daily activities of a small fabrication team.

The successful candidate will combine excellent fabrication skills with leadership ability, helping improve shop efficiency, mentoring junior fabricators and continuously identifying opportunities to improve fabrication methods before production begins.

Because every project is custom, this position requires practical problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to recommend improvements to fabrication drawings and manufacturing methods based on experience.

Duties Include

  • Lead, supervise and mentor a team of two to three fabricators and helpers.
  • Plan daily production schedules and assign work based on employee skills and project priorities.
  • Fabricate custom illuminated and non-illuminated signs of all sizes using aluminum, steel and stainless steel.
  • Read, interpret and verify fabrication drawings before production.
  • Review shop drawings and recommend practical improvements to simplify fabrication while maintaining structural integrity and appearance.
  • Perform high-quality MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and steel.
  • Cut, fit, assemble and weld aluminum tubing, steel tubing, structural sections, sheet metal and plate.
  • Operate fabrication equipment including:
  • Press brake
  • Shear
  • Cold saw
  • Band saw
  • Ironworker
  • Drill press
  • Grinders
  • Forklift
  • Other fabrication equipment
  • Ensure fabricated components meet project drawings, CSA requirements and Everest Signs' quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate measurements and dimensional tolerances.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Designers and Purchasing to resolve fabrication issues.
  • Maintain a safe, organized and efficient fabrication shop.
  • Train junior employees and promote continuous improvement throughout the department.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum five years of experience in custom metal fabrication.
  • Extensive MIG and TIG welding experience with aluminum and steel.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.
  • Excellent layout, measuring and fabrication skills.
  • Experience fabricating one-off custom products rather than repetitive production work.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication sequencing and production planning.
  • Ability to identify fabrication improvements and solve manufacturing challenges.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring fabrication staff.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Experience in any of the following industries is considered an asset:

  • Sign manufacturing
  • Architectural metal fabrication
  • Miscellaneous metals
  • Ornamental metals
  • Structural steel
  • Display and exhibit fabrication
  • Custom manufacturing
  • Commercial millwork involving metal fabrication

CWB certification is considered an asset but is not required.

Forklift certification is also considered an asset.

What Everest Signs Provides

  • Stable full-time employment.
  • Year-round work.
  • Modern fabrication equipment and tools.
  • Interesting custom projects with no repetitive production work.
  • Opportunity to lead and grow your own fabrication team.
  • Supportive and respectful work environment.
