Job Summary: This position supports the fabrication, assembly, and finishing of wood-based products. This role involves working with hand and power tools, supporting finishing processes like sanding, staining, and coating, and ensuring quality standards are met throughout the production process.

Responsibilities:

Production & Finishing

  • Assist with the operation of finishing equipment during small-batch production runs.
  • Feed and unload hardwood planks from production lines while maintaining product quality.
  • Sand, stain, oil, coat, and finish wood products according to established procedures.
  • Follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications to ensure products meet quality standards.
  • Inspect completed work for defects and notify supervisors of any quality concerns.

Fabrication & Assembly

  • Assist in the fabrication of stair components, millwork pieces, display panels, handset samples, showroom fixtures and simple furniture using a variety of hardwood materials.
  • Cut, machine, and assemble wood components using hand and power tools.
  • Cut and label hardwood hand samples to specified dimensions and project requirements.
  • Build LTL shipping crates and protective packaging using plywood and other sheet goods.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Operate woodworking machinery, finishing equipment, and hand and power tools safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with routine cleaning and basic maintenance of production equipment.
  • Follow all health and safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Shipping & Material Handling

  • Package hardwood flooring orders and prepare materials for shipment when required.
  • Strap products securely to pallets and assist with loading and unloading materials.
  • Move materials safely throughout the production facility using appropriate equipment and procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must be able to take direction, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Operate all woodworking machinery, finishing equipment, hand and power tools, in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Must be eager and willing to learn.
  • An ability to think creatively is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic.
  • Customer service minded and computer savvy.

Experience:

  • Experience in a small production facility (hardwood flooring, cabinetry, furniture, millwork) considered an asset.
  • Previous warehouse experience considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Personal protective equipment (steel toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, etc.) needed at times.
  • Lifting of hardwood cartons approximately 20-25 kg in weight needed.
  • Prolonged periods of standing while working on production line.
