Full job description

A leading Canadian manufacturing organization recognized for producing high-quality consumer products is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Supervisor to oversee and optimize night shift production operations. This role will play a key part in leading frontline teams, ensuring product quality, driving efficiency, and supporting operational excellence in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Shift Requirement

  • This position is dedicated to permanent night shifts.
  • Candidates must be available to work overnight hours and support operational requirements on the night shift schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning

  • Develop and execute production plans to meet customer demand while optimizing labour, equipment utilization, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Quality to align schedules with business priorities.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate production leads, operators, and support staff to achieve nightly production targets and maintain quality standards.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure production processes follow established quality standards, SOPs, regulatory requirements, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintain audit readiness and ensure all documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Partner closely with Quality teams to address deviations, implement corrective actions, and maintain product integrity.

Resource Management

  • Optimize staffing, machinery, and material flow to support production demands.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Warehouse teams to ensure timely material availability.

Performance Metrics

  • Track and report KPIs related to output, labour efficiency, downtime, waste, quality, and safety.
  • Analyze trends and implement action plans to improve performance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, process flow, lean manufacturing, and automation opportunities.
  • Support change management and cross-functional improvement projects.

Health & Safety

  • Promote and enforce a strong health and safety culture across all shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and investigate incidents or near misses.

Budget & Cost Control

  • Support departmental budgets and monitor overtime, labour costs, and operating expenses.
  • Identify opportunities for savings without compromising quality or service levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, Science, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role within manufacturing.
  • Previous GMP manufacturing experience is required.
  • Previous experience leading overnight or off-shift operations is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of quality systems, SOPs, compliance standards, and audit readiness.
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience developing high-performing teams.
  • Knowledge of production systems, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP or production planning software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
