Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal surfaces for painting, coating, and finishing by removing rust, mill scale, old coatings, and other contaminants using abrasive blasting equipment.
  • Perform paint preparation activities including grinding, sanding, and general surface prep to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality.
  • Carry out sandblasting operations safely and efficiently, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct steel preparation tasks, including cleaning, smoothing, and touch-ups on metal parts prior to coating.

  • Collaborate with fabrication and coatings team members to coordinate workflow and meet production schedules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including blasting equipment and surrounding shop spaces.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment while operating abrasive blasting and related machinery.

Essential Skills

  • Strong paint preparation skills, including grinding, sanding, and general surface prep on steel and other metals.
  • Proficiency in steel preparation and touch-up work to achieve smooth, clean surfaces ready for coating.
  • Ability to work in and around a paint booth, supporting coating and finishing operations.
  • Commitment to safety and careful operation of abrasive blasting equipment and related tools.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify and remove contaminants and imperfections on metal surfaces.
