McDougall House is a residential addiction treatment facility for women in recovery. Our gender-specific program provides knowledge, awareness and the opportunity for change. Our aim is to assist our clients in understanding the dynamics behind their addiction. Each individual recovery plan is focused on the goals of the client.

Addiction Counsellor

We’re looking for a fulltime temporary Addiction Counsellor who is passionate about supporting women in their decisions to stay on the path of recovery from addictions. As part of a team of counsellors, you will bring fresh perspectives and experiences to the collaborative process at McDougall House. You will contribute to the work we do with women in Alberta on their individual journeys and will be an integral part of the team delivering the compassionate treatment unique to the program at McDougall House.

What you’ll do

· Perform professional recovery addictions work in the program areas of treatment, prevention and community capacity building using a client centered approach.

· Be a key player in assessing, treating, guiding and supporting clients in addressing their issues related to addiction(s). This can involve processing a single addiction, co-occurring addiction and mental-health problems.

· Develop and monitor treatment plans including targeted interventions to address identified problems/goals in collaboration with clients.

· Collaborate with other counsellors to ensure consistency and alignment with the programming at McDougall House.

· Contribute to a learning culture and play an important role in a supportive team environment.

· Network with other agencies in the community to ensure services and programs at McDougall House are consistent with identified community needs relative to addictions and mental health.

What we’re looking for

· You have a bachelor’s degree with a specialization in addiction counselling, social work or a related field and over 5 years of relevant experience in addiction counselling OR a master’s degree with a specialization in addiction counselling, social work or a related field and over 2 years of experience in addiction counselling.

· You have knowledge of addictions, gender specific issues as they pertain to women as well as knowledge of programs like Twelve Step or SMART Recovery and their significance for women in recovery.

· You have over two years of one-on-one counselling experience with clients recovering from addictions.

· You are capable of taking initiative and making independent decisions while following the guidelines established for the clients in the program.

· You contribute to a culture of learning and are supportive of colleagues.

· You are certified with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) or registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or the equivalent of one of the foregoing.
