Full job description

At HOPA Ports, we don’t just move cargo—we connect communities and build the infrastructure that powers Canada’s marine economy.

We’re looking for an Operations and Projects Technologist to join our team in Oshawa and play a hands-on role in shaping and maintaining a dynamic, multi-use port environment.

If you thrive working in the field, enjoy solving real-world challenges, and are excited by the opportunity to contribute to capital projects and day-to-day operations, this is your chance to make an impact.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Capital Projects, the Construction Technologist is a front-line resource supporting construction delivery, maintenance activities, and operational excellence across Oshawa port lands.

This role blends technical work, field coordination, and operational support—giving you exposure to everything from capital project delivery and tenant coordination to infrastructure inspections and site safety.

What You'll do:

Support Capital Projects

  • Assist with planning and delivery of capital and major maintenance projects
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and support cost estimating and tendering
  • Coordinate contractors, track progress, and support budget and schedule management
  • Review drawings, RFIs, and change orders; help keep projects moving

Support Port Operations

  • Perform routine inspections across port infrastructure (roads, docks, yards, drainage, etc.)
  • Coordinate maintenance activities like snow removal, and site upkeep
  • Communicate with tenants and stakeholders on site conditions and project impacts
  • Support day-to-day operations, urgent repairs, and on-site issue resolution

Coordinate Site Activities

  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Security, and Harbour Master teams
  • Help ensure construction and maintenance work is completed safely and with minimal disruption
  • Maintain accurate records of site conditions, work completed, and operational issues

What You Bring:

  • Recent or near graduate in Engineering Technology or Construction Management
  • 2-5 years related experience
  • Comfortable working in an active industrial or construction environment
  • Strong communicator with excellent attention to detail
  • Skilled in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office
  • Valid G driver’s licence

Working at HOPA:

  • A competitive salary aligned with the public sector
  • Annual bonus program
