Site Manager

Location: Fort McMurray Oil Sands Region
Schedule: 7 Days On / 7 Days Off (Wednesday to Tuesday)
Hours: 12-Hour Shifts
Reports To: Fort McKay Alcor Senior Manager
Positions Available: 1

Position Summary

Fort McKay Alcor is seeking an experienced and motivated Site Manager to oversee daily operations for NPA Maintenance and Construction Project contracts throughout one of our Fort McMurray oil sands.

The Site Manager will provide leadership, direction, and support to supervisors, tradespeople, laborers, and subcontractors while ensuring daily operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client expectations. This position plays a critical role in achieving success in the key areas of Safety, Quality, Cost, and Schedule.

The ideal candidate will possess strong operational and business acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead and motivate diverse department teams in a dynamic industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Communication

  • Act as the primary site liaison with clients and stakeholders.
  • Attend progress meetings, safety meetings, weekly leadership meetings, and management reviews.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise site personnel and subcontractors.
  • Allocate work supervisor assignments and support employee training and development.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and compensation adjustments.
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment while promoting accountability and engagement.

· Working collaboratively to solve problems and achieve results

Operations Management

  • Review work capacities with supervisors in departments pertaining to orders, project scopes, plans, specifications, and proposals to determine feasibility and resource requirements.
  • Ensure project execution aligns with approved plans, client expectations, and company standards.
  • Coordinate workforce planning and staffing requirements with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and promptly address safety concerns.
  • Maintain compliance with site safety programs, quality control requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Resolve personnel and operational issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Coordinate and manage vehicle fleet and equipment resources between departments and project locations.

Safety Leadership & Compliance

  • Champion Fort McKay Alcor's commitment to achieving an incident and injury-free workplace through visible leadership and active participation in all safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all clients, company, provincial, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Lead daily safety discussions, weekly toolbox meetings, pre-job hazard assessments, and site safety meetings.
  • Conduct regular worksite inspections, safety observations, and field audits to identify and mitigate unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Review and approve Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), Safe Work Permits, Critical Lift Plans, and other required safety documentation.
  • Participate in client-led safety initiatives, audits, inspections, and performance reviews.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development for all incidents, near misses, property damage events, and environmental releases.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented, communicated, and tracked to completion.
  • Coordinate modified work and return-to-work programs where required.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, inspection, and certification of tools, equipment, vehicles, and safety-critical systems.
  • Promote employee wellness, mental health awareness, and fatigue management practices in alignment with company and client expectations.
  • Recognize and reinforce positive safety behaviors through coaching, mentoring, and employee recognition programs.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, incident reports, training documentation, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Support Fort McKay Alcor's Indigenous values and community commitments by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and safety-focused work environment for all employees.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Lead facility & project planning, scheduling, document control, progress tracking, and cost management activities.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess project requirements and performance.
  • Identify labor, equipment, materials, and tooling requirements.
  • Monitor site performance against budget and schedule targets.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management regarding site status, risks, opportunities, and resource requirements.

Business Development & Stakeholder Relations

  • Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for additional work and business growth.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and administrative stakeholders to develop effective maintenance & project solutions.
  • Leverage technical expertise to interpret client needs and promote company capabilities.
  • Develop and sustain a strong professional network throughout the industrial and oil sands sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and all applicable municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be a resident of the Fort McMurray region.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation and industrial site safety management systems.
  • Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Must process intermediate computer skills in Outlook/Excel/Word/Power Point
  • Strong understanding of estimating, budgeting, and project management principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and team-building experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working in industrial maintenance and construction environments.

Preferred

  • Technical training, diploma, or degree in:
  • Facilities Maintenance Management
  • Project Management
  • Red Seal Trade Certificate
  • Related field
