Full job description

About Us

Knights On Guard Security is a Canadian-owned security company delivering tailored protection solutions to a diverse clientele across Ontario. Serving our communities since 1989, we have built our reputation on professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to service excellence. Our people are central to our success, and we are committed to providing meaningful employment, career development, and opportunities for advancement.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Human Resources Director with strong industry experience to lead our HR and recruitment functions and support our expanding operations across the GTA and beyond.

This role combines senior-level leadership with direct involvement in talent acquisition, employee and labour relations, performance management, and day-to-day HR operations. Working closely with senior leadership and operational managers, you will strengthen our workforce, improve HR processes, and build a workplace culture grounded in accountability, respect, and professional growth.

We are seeking an industry-experienced HR leader who understands the operational challenges of private security and building services and can contribute immediately to recruitment, workforce management, and employee retention. The ideal candidate brings sound judgment, strong business awareness, and proven experience supporting a large, unionized workforce in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.

Compensation: $80,000 - $150,000 annually

Key Responsibilities

  • HR leadership and strategy: Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with business objectives. Lead, coach, and develop the HR and recruitment teams, establishing clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and service standards.
  • Talent acquisition and workforce planning: Lead end-to-end recruitment, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection, and onboarding. Build reliable candidate pipelines and work with operations to anticipate staffing needs, support new contracts, and improve hiring quality and turnaround times.
  • Employee and labour relations: Manage employee concerns, workplace investigations, disciplinary matters, grievances, and conflict resolution. Maintain constructive union relationships, administer collective agreements, and support collective bargaining and dispute resolution.
  • Management guidance: Provide practical advice to managers on attendance, performance, accommodations, leaves, corrective action, and terminations, ensuring fair, consistent, and well-documented decisions.
  • Employee development and retention: Oversee onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, and succession planning. Partner with managers and training personnel to strengthen leadership capabilities and create development opportunities.
  • Compliance and HR administration: Maintain effective HR policies, procedures, and confidential employee records. Ensure HR practices align with applicable Ontario employment legislation, collective agreements, and company standards.
  • Payroll oversight: Oversee payroll processing and related HR inputs to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with employment terms and collective agreements. Coordinate with payroll and finance to resolve discrepancies.
  • Systems and process improvement: Oversee HR information systems and recruitment software, improve data accuracy, and streamline workflows. Lead HR projects and change initiatives that support organizational growth.
  • Reporting and budgeting: Monitor recruitment, turnover, retention, absenteeism, and other HR performance measures. Present actionable recommendations to senior leadership and manage HR and recruitment budgets.

Qualifications

  • Strong industry experience is required. Candidates must have substantial HR leadership experience within the private security or building services industry, including direct experience supporting a large, unionized workforce.
  • A thorough understanding of high-volume recruitment, multi-site operations, and the staffing demands of a 24/7 service business.
  • Demonstrated experience leading HR and recruitment teams while overseeing both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations.
  • Proven experience in labour relations, including collective agreement administration, grievance handling, disciplinary matters, and maintaining effective union relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, labour relations, human rights, workplace safety, and accessibility requirements.
  • Experience overseeing payroll processes, maintaining confidential employee records, and using HR information systems and recruitment software.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, investigation, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to advise managers, influence stakeholders, and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, budgeting, and project-management skills, with a track record of improving processes and leading organizational change.

Why Join Knights On Guard?

This is an opportunity to shape the HR function of an established Canadian security company, work closely with senior leadership, and make a meaningful impact on employee experience, operational performance, and continued growth.
