Work hard and put in your time.
Carpenter (Current Employee) – Calgary, AB – 22 January 2019
I'm still an employee here, and thought I'd help people to understand what working as a carpenter at Giusti is like.
Get ready for overtime. Most of the year you can expect to work 50-60 hours per week. Usually 54hrs (10 hours Mon-Fri and 4 hours on Sat). My friends laugh when I tell them things have slowed down a little for the winter when I'm only getting 45-50 hours a week.
Get ready to work hard. My first month I thought I wasn't going to make the cut, and up until then I'd thought pretty highly of myself. Don't worry about not being in good physical condition- you will be within a couple months, if you can stick it out.
In a nutshell, from what I've observed, the only thing this company respects is hard work and loyalty. I've been in the construction industry for over 20'years, and have never worked so hard, felt so strong, or felt so strongly that a company would keep me working.
My first month or so, I've never hated a job more. Now I can say that I've never felt so much pride from being at a company, or performing at a level that not many people can sustain.
Good benefits. Lots of overtime helps pay the bills. Pride in being the best, if you can hack it.
Lots of overtime. If you want to succeed, you'll be too tired for hobbies.
