Better than EI but not by much
Apprentice Plumber/Gasfitter (Former Employee) – Calgary, AB – 28 January 2019
After being laid off by my former employer I applied to Blazer Mechanical and went in for an interview. Upon arriving to the interview I was told that they weren’t looking for fourth year apprentices as I had previously thought, but I agreed to work for the 3rd year wage for the first three months of my employment against my better judgement thinking it was better than 925$ every two weeks. Immediately upon getting said job I started to hear horror stories from various friends/ex-coworkers about working at the company but dismissed it as rumour and ex employees. At three months I was told that my “raise” would have to wait until 6 months as “the company was growing and expanding”. At my 6 month anniversary, I was told by my foreman that he had first been told to fire me, but after arguing that he needed me on site was told “well tell him he can take it or leave it” So I left it. This is all to say nothing about their policy of banking overtime hours, that can only be taken out for a vacation, but during my time there they weren’t allowing vacation days to be taken. So you were banking hours for a vacation you weren’t allowed to take. I’ll finish by saying : It took 3 months for me to finally get a pay stub, the blue book of one of my coworkers was straight up lost, and the office manager, safety officer, accountant, and Human Resources manager all happen to be the owners wife.
Good coworkers (Most of whom have left)
